Beats Audio: Explained!

Dude is putting his name on something shady in order to make money, that's selling out, it's selling out his credibility and dignity. Shame because I like his albums and he's produced some good stuff, but this is downright shady.

I think (to my ears) that Beats headphones sound like garbage and are overpriced, but fine.. If you like them, buy them.

But can you justify an equaliser that changes your stock settings without you realising when you turn it off so your stock sound sounds terrible without the "Beats enhancement"?

Nothings wrong with making money as long as you are not deceitful.
 
No. They're just selling a brand.

Like Ray Ban, Coach, Air Jordan, Louis Vutton, etc. These successful and expensive brands aren't making products so well that they're worth the prices charged for them. They're simply selling a brand and people buy into it. For better or for worse it works for them and there's nothing shady about it. Beats is doing exactly what those other guys are doing.
 
Stereophile just did a comparison test against Aviators. The Beats lost big time and they were rather impressed by the Aviators.
 
There's nothing shady about an equalizer that "enhances" sometheing.

But when you turn the equalizer off and it alters your settings so the bass is now -10 or whatever lowest it can be and treble is +10 so your sound now sounds like garbage. That is shady, because it's done so people think Hey Beats sounds much better on than off.

It isn't just "enhancing" your sound with it on, it is un-enhancing your sound with it off. That is shady.

If you can't see that I really don't see the point in discussing this with you.

The dude made his money practically inventing gangsta rap.Its not like he invented the polio vaccine,or something.Using his noteriety to sell a product in a field he is known for:sound reproduction.I dont think they sound that great,but more power to him.He has helped make headphones hip again,and they are really good looking cans.

You're acting like it's a crime against humanity when really, if you don't like it, don't buy it. If you've been around a Windows based PC sometime within the last ten years and you find that "OH NO, my newest computer came with BEATS AUDIO :sigh:" it will probably take all of five minutes for you to figure out how to uninstall the software into oblivion.

It's his equalizer that makes me detest Beats. I heard his headphones, I wasn't impressed but whatever. There's lots of things that are overpriced and sound terrible.

But sneakily altering computer settings so only your enhancements sound good is not cool.

The difference right now is that you know what it's doing. If someone doesn't know that turning it off isn't actually turning it off, it's a problem. Shady IMO.

As for marketing, well, if people weren't so oblivious to the piles of bull they're fed every single day, maybe this kinda stuff would stop being the norm. Unfortunately, the vast majority of folks will watch a commercial and feel real good about their "new and improved" headphones with "active sound enhancement" and an upgraded "ergonomic auditory experience" after they dump $179.95 on $8 worth of junk. But hey, all 12 million other folks with their "Thumps by DJ Rump" will welcome them to the audiophile elite.
 
And yet it's their money to spend.

We all buy things that have some sort of caveat or hidden downside. Add this to the list that includes everything.
 
Why not just have an app or a player that has an EQ built in so “YOU” can adjust it to your liking, instead of someone’s else’s idea of what an EQ curve should be. Sounds like beats audio only has 2 different settings instead of giving you the option to set your own curve.

Sounds suspiciously like the difference in the BBE, in bypass the sound is set to sound dry, so when you engage the controls it changes the EQ curve and like magic it sounds better.
 
I guess with dre beats the term snake oil is rampant throughout the internet and also in this forum. So where is the difference between this company and other companies that offer technology with questionably high markups? Nobody complains about it there?

Apple sells cool, easy-to-use stuff. I've got three iPods and 4 iPhones. The extra cost is worth it to me, and my kids want the status that comes with Apple products.

Brand status is why I switched from Sears Toughskins to Levis back in 5th grade.
