Beer Temperature

LDK180

befuddled
It's already 5 degs F here at 5PM and I have beer stored in an unheated garage. I know I must venture out to save it and that got me to thinking about what temp AKers like to consume their beer at. I like it around 55.

I like it just above slushy. I transfer from the fridge to the freezer for about 10-15 minutes, then put it in one of those cooler cups that have the blue stuff that goes in the freezer also.

All depends...Different styles require different temps. For example, if ya ever get a beer (usually the higher octane ones...) that has a metallic taste to it - let it warm up abit. The metal flavors will usually go away. For most domestic stuff though, I agree that damn near slushy is best :thmbsp:

If I get a beer that has a metallic taste to it, I pour it down the drain. And I like beer cold. Damned cold.

I keep mine in my unheated garage. It doesn't seem to freeze until it's about -25 C outside. I haven't had any problems all winter.

It's really great because it gets so cold out there that when I bring it inside, it sweats ice. :smoke:

Given the penchant for drinking beers ice cold, I don't suppose you guys from the North are all that thirsty right now given the cold weather.

Doesn't stop me from enjoying it after my week long shifts out of town at a dry camp. :)

I Got to go with Steve...but I like mine about 35-38 degreesF... I have to agree bout the metallic taste when its rite at freezing...

Beer temp

I like it cold, good and cold.

IMHO, if you go to the trouble to keep frosted mugs in the freezer, that's the best way to fly. Used to love sitting around the beer joint drinking draft in frosted mugs, eating pickled eggs.

Back in the 70's there was a joint north of Houston called Gunny's Shack. Gunny sold double yolk pickled eggs, never stiffed me with one with only one yolk.

1st class dive if I ever saw one.

Cold as I can keep it. My fridge ices over water. My local bar keeps their beer on ice. Nothing better than a cold beer. Nothing worse than a warm one.

A local restaurant I go to serves the beer in mugs so cold that a skin of ice forms over the top.

Perfect!

As far as garages, several years ago we hit -20 F, and while I was watching TV I was hearing some strange popping noise from the back of the house.

What a freakin' mess to clean up. Blew the necks clean off the bottles.

I like to drink beer at a nice warm 60 to 75 degrees, ambient temperature, right after pulling a bottle out of a cooler full of ice. Of course colder weather never stopped me either :D .

how I tell a beer is the perfect temperature is when I pop the bottle cap and no bubbles rise and there is a sort of steam cloud at rest in the little bucket formed by the surface of the beer and sides of the bottle neck. Then I tip it back, take that first frosty sip, set it down and watch the bubbles start......excuse me I've got to go to the fridge...

I believe you just wrote a commercial 'cause i'm buyin what you're sellin!

The physics of very cold beer. Have you ever noticed what happens when you take a bottle of beer that has been chilled well below freezing and pop off the cap?

The pressure in the bottle drops the freezing point of the beer. When you relieve the pressure by removing the cap, the liquid is no longer under pressure but is well below it's freezing point. It freezes instantly. You can actually watch freeze. Of course once it's frozen, it's much harder to get out of the bottle.

Yep, sometimes it ices when I open it. I really like the ice cold garage beer though.
