Ben Harper bass notes hard on my speakers.

Happy is the key word.

Well I have two R-117's so my view may be somewhat bias...but for a receiver yeah it is excellent. It will push my 400 watt JBL 250Ti's without a struggle. 30+ years now and I haven't been disappointed musically. The thing to watch for is the speaker relays...but they can be updated.

Maybe I've missed it but has anyone inquired about how the OP's system is set up. I have questions such as are tone controls and/or an equalizer being used or, how loud do you play music and what's the room like?
 
16028843403372389118581326061524.jpg 12x12 all wood room. Pioneer GR-777 spectrum analyzer effects looped in to the Luxman R-113. R113 preamp out to JBL nanopatch fed directly to the NEC A-910 amplifier bypassing the preamp of the NEC. Tone controls on the Luxman are flat. Eq fairly flat. Loudness off. Luxman is set to 10 o'clock on the volume. The only time it ever happened is when playing the Ben Harper. Right speaker only. The Subsonic filter seemed to correct it nicely. I play my music very loud. You can feel it loud.

Have you tried a different copy of the Ben Harper?

Saying you play music "loud" means pretty much nothing as we all have different opinions on what is loud. It's far better to use a free downloadable SPL meter app for your phone and measure things.

With my subwoofers it's easy to "feel" the music even at moderate levels (65dB-70dB)
 
Don't have access to another copy but I think we have the issue solved. I can use the subsonic filter or my other speakers on channel B with subwoofer when listening to these tracks with excellent results. Thanks.

After 2:19? the next minute is usually either very visceral, or meh.
don't trust youtube, most of 'em filter out the subsonics.

My copy is from a rykodisc cd I ripped years (decades now, wow) ago.
Back when I was an asshole, I used to play this at audio shops. more then one woofer audibly reached the limits of its excursion.

It makes the drywall walls vibrate in my house, all my windows and doors, cabinets, plates, glasses, etc.

The vandersteens I've heard, did really quite amazing low bass.

Oh no I’m listening to it via Qobuz through Roon . It is a visceral impact I’m my room however, I have an acoustically treated room bass trap and my sub is isolated as well . But my speakers handle the whole thing fine , they go down to 26hz with an in room response to 22hz and the sub takes over from their down to 8hz if need be .

Lol that must have been something to watch the salesman’s expression when the speakers bottomed out haha .
