Best allignment method on Technics SL-D3

Yes, but is there supposed to be a record under the protractor?
Or that difference in height when aligning isn't that relevant?

The addition of a record under will have only a very small effect on the mounting distance. And if the protractor is close to the thickness of a record, the effect will be negative.

And thanks for a very good idea! I'll glue the printed protractor to a piece of cardboard thick as a record.

Have a 120g copy of Chet Atkins & Mark Knopfler's "Neck on neck" and a 200g LP by Gibonni, a local Croatian artist. The difference is visible.

So far I seem to get better sound than the alignment tool was giving me but I'm just worried that it's too forward or something. Sorry for all the questions and issues but I just want to make sure I'm doing this right. I spent many years with cheap turntables and never knew how to properly set up til now. Once again thanks in advance.

I hate to bump a thread, but I was looking for exactly this situation (aligning the AT95e with the original Technics headshell). My 1200 came with a Stanton, and it wasn't quite as long as the Technics one that arrived today. I noticed (very conveniently!) that if the cart is mounted as forward as possible with no angle, it aligns perfect with the arc protractor and sounds wonderful.

My alignment looks EXACTLY like the picture. I'll stop futzing with it now ;-)
 
If it sounds great, and if it aligns with the (Baerwald) Technics Arc Protractor, I believe the only thing to do now is - ENJOY!
 
So after 8 months of spinning vinyl with AT95e aligned according to the Baerwald method, I've changed to the Technics-recommended "52mm" alignment.

I've changed it couple of weeks ago (when trying out the Rega Elys cart) and it seems that there really is less IGD with the 52mm-method!

I've also put the 2mm Rega wool/felt mat on top of the stock Technics rubber mat and achieved the perfect VTA for the AT95e.

Just wanted to share...
