Bummer, I just checked on the pair I ordered from Amazon as replacement for the ones I busted - they appear to be counterfeits 
I'll get in touch with Sennheiser to make sure they have never offered a vinyl pouch. Once I have that info, I'll contact Amazon to get a refund and such. I'll bet that the Buy.Com are counterfeits too :scratch2:

So I got an email back from Carol at Sebago Traders and she claims they are real Sennheisers and she will even pay the return shipping if they are not. I also have a query into Sennheiser USA for more info on clues to knock-offs. We'll see how this unfolds?
Maybe we should start a "Sticky" about knock-offs with links and info?

My CX-400II's from Sebago Traders arrived today. Are they real? I dunno.
Did a search on the topic of counterfeit CX-400's and came up with lots of conflicting information. My opinion is they are most likely real Senns. I don't think the leather pouch or the rounded screens are the real test, although mine have the vinyl pouch and flat screens.
Maybe BrocLuno will get a response from Sennheiser that will tell us more.
I bought these to replace a pair of earphones I have at work. For 28 bucks they sound great and I'm not going to worry about it too much. If I have something more definitive to post, I will.

"Thank you for the information. Please remember in making your evaluation that the information given is for the Sennheiser CX400 and you have purchased the Sennheiser CX-400II, so there may be some slight variations. We are glad you are doing your due diligence.
Also please remember that the CX400-II is now a discontinued model, however we will provide warranty service for up to year from date of purchase. Because it is long discontinued Sennheiser no longer provides warranty service on this item. We have set aside a percentage of our units for future warranty claims.

product from Amazon.com, and it ships from Amazon.com's warehouse
and Amazon bills you (not a 3rd party), then you're all set. To be
safe, always buy from an authorized dealer. "
So the sets I have been buying from Amazon are real. The CX 400 II's have flat screens and "leather-ette" pouches (vinyl). The info at the eBay warning site arrears to be wrong or misleading? I'll have my Sebago Traders set here in a few days and I'll look again, but these appear to be the real deal

The effort it would take to make all this packing, bubble mount, reflective printing and background; plus the fit, finish and sound just do not strike me as counterfeit
I also got this further email from Carol at Sebago: Just curious, which audio board do you use? We hope that your order has reached you and that you are happy with your purchase.
If you are not for any reason, please let us know and we will make it right - no matter what it takes. We he have looked at feedback we received for this item and people are genuinely pleased, we hope you will be also
