I'm going to be a panel member on a YouTube podcast tomorrow (03 NOV 2024), discussing the top Rock / Pop songs of 1981 (as ranked by Billboard Magazine). My two favorite songs of 1981, "The Break-Up Song" (Greg Kihn Band) and "Another One Bites the Dust (Queen) only made it to 47 and 65 respectively. My third favorite song, "Arthur's Theme" (Christopher Cross) only to 64. Some others that I like, such as "Betty Davies Eyes", "Queen of Hearts", and "Lady", did place higher.

The early 1980s were such an amazing period of time for music; music which rose from the ashes of the disco era. What are your favorites from that period? :)

"Got a wife and kids in Baltimore, Jack.
I went out for a ride and I never looked back.
Like a river that don't know where it's flowing
I took a wrong turn and I just kept going."

Bonus points: Name the hit record the backing singers had in 1967.

PS, I have based my responses off of the thread title "Best Rock / Pop song of 1981".

I know Natasha went on in her opening post to include the "early 1980s" but I have limited my responses to this;

"I'm going to be on a panel member on a YouTube podcast tomorrow (03 NOV 2024), discussing the top Rock / Pop songs of 1981"

Thak You Mr Boochie!!!

Because of your song submission, I searched Tom Tom Club, and found out they are an outgrowth of the Talking Heads! :D

" Tom Tom Club is an American new wave band founded in 1981 by husband-and-wife team Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth and as a side project from Talking Heads.[3] Their best known songs include the UK top 10 hit "Wordy Rappinghood" and the US top 40 hit "Genius of Love", both from their 1981 debut album, and a cover of The Drifters' "Under the Boardwalk" that reached the UK top 30."

PS, don't hate me for this admission, , , , but, , I NEVER liked Springsteen :(

All my friends were always going on about "but, your such a motorhead, how can ya not like Bruce?"

Just never clicked with me, , , his music always felt kinda forced to me, sorta like how I always felt Michael Richards forced (over emoted) Kramer.
