Best setup for Marantz 2325 and Technics SL-1200MK2

I currently have a 2325 receiver I’ve been using with my Technics 1200 turntable, Marantz 5010B tape duck, and a Marantz CD-67SE CD player. Speakers being used are a pair of Celestion Ditton 100 and a pair of Celestion D10s. The receiver and turntable have been professionally restored but everything currently stored away as we go through a home remodel.

Is it optimal to be running the turntable, tape deck, and CD player through the receiver or would it better to add an amp and preamp? I was looking at purchasing a Marantz 3200 preamp and 140 amp to add to my setup, but to be honest after reading countless threads and warching too many YouTube videos, I’m still completely mystified what the best setup would be or how to set it all up.

I love the look of the vintage Marantz equipment so definitely want to go that route, but would love any advice on how to create the best setup going all Marantz.

I’m sure there are better speakers out there so welcome to take suggestions there also.

This my first post and I’m obviously a newbie, so please speak in layman’s terms

Welcome the 2325 is good by itself adding those other 2 components would be a backward step IMHO. Depending on what phono cartridge you use you may get some improvement by adding a better phono stage but the 2325 has a pretty good one and you would probably need to spend over $500 retail to equal or better it. Or you could add an MC cartridge and MC phono stage or step up transformer

Thanks for the reply. I'm currently using a SHURE M97xE cartridge.

Again, showing my ignorance, but what would be the correct scenario to use an amp/preamp? as a replacement for the receiver?

yes instead of the receiver. you could use the 3200 and 140 together as a second system. the 2325 is 125 watts per channel and already has a pre amp and amp. the 140 is 75 watts per channel. if you had a lower watt receiver say a marantz 2230 30 watts per channel and wanted more power you could use the 2230 as the pre amp for the 140 then you would have 75 watts per channel.

the Shure M97xE cart is good with the 2325 phono stage as well.

^^^^^+1 on everything Chris said. My daily driver is a 2325 with a Dual 1229 turntable and M97xE cart. I play through either Klipsch Fortes or modified JBL L-100's. It's not the system to end all systems, but for the money I have spent and the sweat equity refurbishing the receiver and turntable, it sounds like a million bucks to me. Receivers vs. components is simply a matter of personal preference up to around the 125 wpc range. Above that, you usually need separate components (amp, preamp, tuner). Want to know which is best.? Start a thread on the subject and watch the fireworks.
