Best Speakers Made In The 70s

These were among the best one could hope for in the '70s. These are triamped using a one-off electronic crossover and one-off passive units between the amp and horn drivers. I purchased them from a recording studio that went out of business. I use Marantz 170DC power amps for the four woofers and the Marantz 1180DC integrated for the preamp and horn drivers' amp. I also have the matching Marantz tuner with the scope.

A meeting of the JBL group was held here and everyone agreed that these were the best sounding 604s that anyone had ever heard.

Looking for opinions on which are some of the best 3-way speakers during the 70s! I am brand new to this hobby and just started to collect. So far I have Pioneer HPM 60s and eventually get the 100s! My receivers so far are Kenwood KR 3600 and 7600 plus Sansui G771 "The Black Version"

There cannot be one answer, depends on taste and goals (accuracy, SPLs, imaging, etc) I was in the business then and was extremely fond of the ADS 710/810, The Fried transmission lines were terrific, reminisent of the best British speakers of the time (KEF, Wharfdale, B&W), for might for size, LS3/5A mini-monitors. JBL or Cerwin-Vega to rock out (but at this age, if so-used may be trashed).....

Ohm C2’s are one of my favorites from the 70’s. Still do many things very well.

The EV Patrician 700 were made until the early 80s. These are mine. They are 4 way with a 30 inch back firing woofer.

There were plenty of great speakers in the 70's, based on 70's standards. Standards have changed for the better since then.

Thats like asking which was the best 4 wheel vehicle. Do you need a Heavy duty one ton diesel pickup, or a small pick-up. Do you want a Rolls Royce or a high performance Bentley? A Ferrari or Porsche. Maybe you want a Duisenberg, Continetal MK II or a Chrysler Imperial. Model 600 Mercedes Limo, or a stretch Casdillac limo with room for a casket.

Best speakers in the 70's. Infinity line array, Magneplanar bi directional line array, KLH 9 electrostatic, UREI 813 monitor speakers, my favorite all time B&W 808. Nothing new today sounds as good made by B&W. I don't remember what was in the JBL Synthesis line then. Maybe it was the 3 way version of the JBL Hartsfield. the EV Patrician, the Altec 500 series, or th ADS 2030 or 3020? Klipschorns voiced with 1/3 octave room EQ's could sound fantastic. Bozak Concert Grands using the new B200 Zc tweeters were my favorites bi-amped. Book shelf speakers were easy the B&O 5700 or later M70. Low boy cabinets would be the Altec Carmel, EV-6, BOZAK B-4005 and two pairs of Mcintosh ML-4's stacked in pair's on top of each other. But then you needed 600 watts of power for each pair. Got a big house with a big game room. How about some theatre Altec., 110 db 4 feet 1 watt. 8.5' H 10' W. How about three across the front and two in the rear for a HT system. 50 watts a channel is all you'll need.

For around the computer the M&K S-150 7.2 HT set up a lot of studios used for making sound track for famous Spielberg, and Lucas Star Wars Movies. Indiana Jones, too. Even Jaw's.
