Best Ted Nugent Song

I saw him at the Pontiac Silverdome in late 1978 while I was home on leave from the Navy. This was back when they still had cords plugged into everything and I was amazed how he could run around the stage, jumping up on and off of speaker stacks and amps and not trip and bust his ass. And I had ringing in my ears for a week after!

I haven't liked anything of his since the Amboy Dukes. Nugent remains the only rock concert I've walked out on. A buddy and I had free tickets to see him in ~1979 in Rüsselsheim, Germany. It was epically bad, not to mention ear-splittingly loud. I haven't given him a chance since and don't plan to.

Ted is alright with me. I like Got to Live It Up, Working Hard, Playing Hard and Stranglehold. Wished I see him when he was here along with ZZ Top. I bet that was a great show! Of course, my ears would be ringing for a month afterwards.

When in doubt I whip it out, I got me a rock 'n' roll band
It's a Free-for-All :guitar:

Yah, some of his lyrics are just outlandishly crazy they make me laugh.

I think what impresses me too is the overall energy level. Showman or not, how do you run that high motor? He claims he did it all without drugs or alcohol, which, based on the era and the type of music he plays, quite unusual indeed. :scratch2:

If you had long hair in the 70's, you have a favorite Nuge tune. It was music for our time. Drug embibement tuneage Nothing more.

Hell, I almost built up a complete working CD-4 Quad system again just to get that Stranglehold swirl going again in quadraphonic.

No chops? Do you have any idea what.....skill and control it takes to play what he does on a Byrdland?. Any teenager can play most of his stuff with a little practice but doing it at 100db on a hollow body, bluegrass twang box does in-fact take skill.

Other than that, He's become a talentless "as swipe" since the 70's.

Ted Nugent sucks?
Apparently he is not the only one. (disappointed head shake)

I listen to mostly prog, ambient and movie soundtracks...but I still love the whole First Ted album.Stranglehold,Queen of the Forrest and Just What the Doctor Ordered always thrill. :)

Growing up in the 1970's and listening to KISS and the "Nuge" was a must in my hometown. All the "cool" kids listened to those bands.

My favorite was always "Stranglehold" which is closely followed by "The Great White Buffalo" and "Wango Tango"

Stranglehold can do no wrong and rises above Ted's generally obnoxious stage antics and moronic (even by rock & roll's lax standards) lyrics.

The use of Stranglehold in Richard Linklater's "Dazed and Confused" was inspired and spot on. The 70s needed Terrible Ted. Not so certain about later decades.

Not only has he outlived a fair amount of his competition, he has 40 shows
to play between now and Labor Day. Can any rock band from the 60's -70's
pull that off? Picking a favorite song would be tough as it would with any
good band but Stanglehold has to be one of the greatest guitar riffs of all time.

Growing up in Michigan in the 70's Ted Nugent's music was just part of a the daily dose of Michigan rock n roll music (Ted Nugent, Alice Cooper, Bob Seger, Grand Funk, Iggy Pop and others) so Nugent was a staple in almost every teenager's musical diet and played at many venues in Michigan live.

Ted is a good guitar player. Ted is a good showman. Ted is very opinionated. And Ted rocks out on these tunes that I consider "best" of his:

Violent Love
Wang Dang Sweet Poontang...Live Version (Double Live Gonzo)
I Just Want to Go Huntin'

Just a thought here...I was listening to Heart's Dog and Butterfly a couple of weeks back for the first time. Spotted a nice vinyl copy at the thrift for $1 so picked it. I put it on and listened to the "Dog" side which is the hard electric side. Anyway I am listening to this and said to myself. Self: Ted Nugent ripped off guitar gonzo god riffs from Nancy Wilson!
