When you saw Elton, it was bi-passed because Calibration was not complete. You should see it now, I am in total disbelief the change would be so dramatic.

BTW, the Lumagen is so advanced it's scary. It has 6 inputs & will store up to 4 Calibrations on each input. 24 total Memories can be recalled by a single button.

Masterlu: I can see you are overwhelmed with joy regarding the Lumagen but, did you happen to check out the Crystallio link I posted in this thread?

I have no financial gain to push one or the other, I happened to review them both and read many reviews on both, I was wondering what you thought of the C2 video on the crystallio website.

I did look at the site for Crystallio, and asked my Video tech about it. He said Crystallio & Lumagen are both the leaders in their field. Based on his findings he preferred the Lumagen.

Since he is a certified expert on my projector, I went with his reco.

Is the only difference between the HDQ and HDP the number of inputs provided? I wouldn't have a need for 10 inputs (a la the HDQ) since my video feeds would only be DVD and satellite. If they have the same processing power the HDP is lower in price, presumably since they don't have to provision as many connections and associated switching. Maybe I'll see them at NAB!

There are other differences internally as well. On the spec sheet they look quite similar. The HDQ is running different algorithms in addition to more inputs and SDI, & BNC capable.

Thanks Ivan. Seeing how similar the specs were is what prompted me to ask. I'll have to keep the Lumagen in mind as a long term upgrade after I finish with my audio. Burning in my new C45 and MC402 for the next few days. Will post a listening review by the weekend.
 
Masterlu: I dont think I was correct in assuming that you have the latest Lumagen radiance..do you?

I ask because I just looked into their product line and realized that they havent released a new product for nearly 2 years and if you have an older Vision HDQ then I STRONGLY urge you to STOP and return that unit.

First off, the Vision HDQ has DVI ports that require HDMI to DVI adapters but, more importantly the chipset and algorithms in the VHDQ cannot hold a candle to whats in the Crystallio or for what Lumagen will be releasing shortly.

In Lumagens defense, I think the new Radiance has the potential to be the single best video scaler out but, there are a few concerns..

1. It has been in production since 2005 and even the beta units have not yet been released, so no promises as to if or when the radiances will ship.

2. What looks good on paper doesnt all manifest itself to look good on the screen. All the latest chipsets and algorithms sound fine and dandy but, sometimes the GUI and actual product doesnt deliver the goods as we would hope.

3. BUGS BUGS BUGS! There is not a video scaler in the world that hasnt shipped with bugs, that goes for Faroudja, Crystallio and DVDO who are constantly updating firmeware. Initially, after the first units roll out and real users have the opportunity to put it into real life systems, you get the lions share of the bug reports. Hopefully, they are minor and can be firmware repaired but, other times it is HARDWARE related and a redesign or replacement is required.

My suggestion for you is to wait for the radiance and ask your dealer if you can use the current lumagen in your system until the radiance ships and/or if he will allow a full credit of the VHDQ towards the new Radiance.

If he will not do that, I strongly suggest you look into the Crystallio, if for nothing else, to compare it to the Lumagen. It has the Gennum chipset and has been out for over 6 months with a dozen firmware updates under its belt and currently pretty solid overall, dare I say the best available today.
 
When I looked on the Lumagen site yesterday there were two press releases that they would 1.) demo the Radiance product at CES and 2.) ship the first Radiance model 1Q2007. Clearly CES is past and we are into the first quarter. I didn't see anything else as far as product info on their web site when I was downloading info so I wonder what status is for the Radiance line.

Interesting, I just revisited the site and the front page says first quarter but the press release release says shipping in 2nd quarter. Maybe they ran into a last minute snag. Anyone see the Radiance demo at CES?
 
I understand that Lumagen has proprietary technology & a super product with zero marketing.

On the AVS forums there is a thread dedicated solely to this topic and it is 1 1/2 years old and 100+ pages long.

The short story from what I can ascertain is that Lumagen ran into a problem with a board and had to re-spin entirely new boards for the Radiance, and that is what caused the major delays.

The hope to have betas out by the end of February and then produce for the public in March.

Before this gets too controversial, let me just say there are more than one Lumagen Radiance model made, the finished product is available & I own one.

I frequently get gear before it hits main stream retail outlets. On a side note, it was a tough decision but I chose Lumagen for personal reasons.

Crystalio & Lumagen are both cutting edge Video Processors, boasting 10-bit video processing & every conceivable feature. No losers here! :no:
 
Now that you got the radiance the only concern will be bugs, because you have one of the very first and one of the very best video processors on the market.

I dont know how you got it but, you are a lucky guy!

I also agree that there are no winners or losers when comparing the Lum and the Crys.

For those that are interested in top Video reproduction:

I had the priviledge of speaking to Engineers at both Crystalio & Lumagen, Direct Display devices will benefit more from the Crystalio as that is what it was designed for.

On the other hand Front End Projectors, more specifically CRT's will benefit more from the Lumagen as that was their engineering goal.

Undoubtedly I will add a Crystalio to my big screen Plasma shortly.

I just ordered the New Pioneer PRO-FHD1 along with MVP871 and was curious if any these enhancer would make a major difference. I won't get a chance view either till March because they are for home in PA. and I will be in Florida till March.
