I mispoke. The high price for the Nuprime accessories to make the Nuprime Fusion capable of HDMI audio is primarily on Nuprime.

Sure, there are licensing fees, royalties, etc., but unless Nuprime is very low production, the per unit costs baked in for those fees should be only a small part of the accessory prices, margins notwithstanding.

Well, as we know higher end stereo DAC sales far surpass that of DACs like the Fusion 8D. Most of us in this game likely tend to prioritize audio quality and/or for budgetary reasons decline to go multichannel. Consequently, sales of multichannel sources from streaming and SACDs remain small. And processors like Marantz, Trinnov and Lyngdorf
dominate the high end home theater market. And at $4K vs. the Topping or Okto 8 channel DACs for under $1400.00, how many Fusion 8D DACs were likely sold this year?

And the Fusion 8D is also a less attractive solution for me if it is not functional without an internet accessible interface.

If it's any consolation, the competing Audiopraise Vanity Pro is US$1800 !
The only way to avoid the cost of these proprietary devices is to go DIY -
Adding post-DSP SPDIF outputs to AVRs

Really superb design work but barely cost effective. But to use it to decode the HDMI audio stereo signal from my DVDs/BDs from either of my three Oppo pIayers I would connect them to this https://www.bestbuy.com/product/fos...ack/J3KCTSQ2VT/sku/10120684/reviews?ratings=5 and the output cable of that switch to the HDMI input of the Audiopraise decoder and it would output the digital stereo signal on one of the four AES digital outputs?

However, with the right adapter couldn't I connect the SPDIF coax outputs of my three players to the AES inputs of this DAC Okto Research ? Of course, I only playe one movie at a time. But which SPDIF to AES adapter?

If you're playing a Blu-ray disc with multi-channel audio - not one AES output, all four AES outputs.
Each AES output carries only two channels - remember, we're dealing with 1970's technology here!

Well yes ... but you will only get 2 channels of audio. No point sending that to an 8-channel DAC.

Remind me please. Why is it you're looking at the added complexities of the various components/items to use HDMI rather than the analog outputs?
