Just a heads up for you guys who might be in to bargain pro amps. I've only used a BGW 250B and know it was great. The seller is advertising he has at least 60 of these and will work a deal on lot purchases. I put my request in for at least one. I believe they are rated at 200/wpc @ 8 ohms.

60? Jesus, that's a lot of tonnage.

I'd love to have a couple 7 foot tall racks of them, just for the look....

Serious tonnage since they're a transformer coupled amplifier.

There's a pair of high audio quality autoformers in each of those amps that are probably worth the entry fee alone.

The poster for the ad will be getting with his partner today or tomorrow and try to get to their storage unit to inspect the inventory of amps. The one I saw at his home was a monoblock unit, set and shipped that way from the factory with no mono/stereo switch and a single transformer sticking out the back with the other transformer input sealed. Don't know how many are like that of the group. I hope there are a number of stereo versions in the batch. Still $99 for a 500 watt @ 8 ohm monoblock amp and $198 (or maybe less) for stereo ain't bad at all. The amp I looked at wasn't beat up either.

Update: 15 Model 600 Stereo + 43 Model 620B Monoblock

Seller met me close to home after work today with a 600 stereo amp. They checked their inventory and found the numbers posted in the title plus two unadvertised 750 amps as well which will cost more. Haven't plugged mine up yet but from the looks of it, inside & out, I think it's a bargain.

Nice, sounds like they cleaned all those out before the stadium was demolished.

I've always wondered whether the 600/620 used essentially the same outputs and drive boards as the 750s in a purpose built or commercial rated format? Note the 600 has the output fins on the outside for passive cooling, while the 750 had them enclosed in the case with fan cooling.

IIRC, the 600/620 had average distortion ratings but for PA work was probably a fine workhorse.

Wonder if they would make good backup parts units for 750's?

They are heavier than hell, I've got a couple of them.

What are the output transistor numbers? I've not had a chance to compare schematics of the 600 and 750.

I might be interested in these, even with the high THD numbers... it would be fine for driving the lower end of a bi-amped system! The 70v system thing gets confusing for me, though... they can still be run like a normal home audio amp, right?!?

Did you buy two? Did you pay a hundred each? If I pick up two, I could mono each on my woofers...

I believe there are 10 output transistors per side. 175/wpc @ 8 ohms at no more than .10% across the 20hz-20khz range. Receivers are claiming .8% now as if it's great. These amps have a listening quality that the specs don't convey likely because they are running so far below their capability.

I paid $100 for mine - the guy tried to give me the dolllar but he did drive across town to meet me. I asked him to hold another 600 amp for me as I'd like to have a second and have the option to bridge them for 500/watt monoblocks. Thing is unlike so many pro amps I've had lately that were great performers, these have no fan noise and using a 3-way electrical adaptor on the power cord - not a bit of hum or noise. The Celestion 300 speakers I got last week are sounding nice and clean as I hoped they would with more power. The camera flash makes the amp look much more 'used' than it really looks in the room.

Also must advise: the 600 model has the multi-way red and black speaker terminals; the 620B has screw terminals only. And again all the 620B are monoblock, straight from the factory with no mono/stereo switch in back.

Agree with you completely as the same can be said for many many fine amplifiers made over the years, designed for both home and commercial applications.

After 40+ years in the hobby, i've learned to trust my ears far more than anything a corporation or individual claims on paper.

Average among most hifi amps of the same vintage.

To suggest that it's distortion rating is "high" relative to other amplifiers of the same time period needs to be backed with some form of citation............................ or dismissed as purely subjective opinion.

I would love to have a pair of these, but the shipping would be killer

Actually... they don't weigh as much as their size suggests, but will require a large box and that might bump the cost up quite a bit. Back in 2007-2008 there was a local deal on some Crown Com-Tech amps - deal wasn't the right word - a steal at $40 for the Com-Tech 400, $80 for the Com-Tech 800, and $100 for the Com-Tech 1600, a 500/wpc monster. I bought and shipped at least 4 or 5 to AKers. The Com-Tech's size/weight ratio was much higher than these BGW's. Oh and the picture in the ad didn't prepare me for the reality that these babies are huge - over 10" high!!

I'm sitting here listening right now. The Celestion speakers I bought at that Waxahachie estate sale are transmission line, capable of reaching down in the 30-35hz range. I'm getting all the concert bass drum, bass, string bass, lower piano notes and rich harmonics of instruments clearly with low level details brought up now that I didn't hear before. I know some of you guys swear by your 'sweet' little tube amps, but they just don't do it for me. High power - CLEAN - high power amps do and not for knocking the walls down volume levels, but more so for mid to low level listening where the clean dynamics and 'back row concert hall' seat experience seems more realistic.

In other words, these are damn good amps though I don't know if there's a sonic difference running them as monoblocks. Some say it's hard on them that way.
