Bicycles with a motor - is it a motorcycle?

It's strictly a bike at your own risk thing here. Cars flying passed bikes at 50 on the skinny 2 lane. In the same lane, inches apart. With cars coming at 50 in the other lane. Film at 6.

I see the issue coming to a head with so-called multi-use trails. I think this is the heart of the OP’s beef.

Multi-use trails are only multi-use for the fastest vehicles, so are very much a misnomer for me.

For example I would never ride my pedal bike on a trail that is used heavily by ATV’s and motorcycles. The smell, noise, and dust are very off-putting. By the same token I will ride my mountain bike on trails that allow hiking. The hikers (I am one as well) find mountain bikes problematic as their speeds do not make for a peaceful walk through the woods.

I don’t own an e-bike, but am interested in a diy conversion of an existing bike as way to test the waters on local gravel and paved roads.

I am fortunate to live in a rural area where the drivers are courteous and friendly. My around-the-block ride is 32 miles and I’ll typically see a dozen vehicles. 95% of passing vehicles move totally over in the other lane. I wave hi to everyone, 95% wave back.

This is a great post, and I think this has been a good thread.
Some of you have pointed out, my beef is against the unskilled, ill behaved, new users that have just found the bike walking\biking trail because of the "e-bike". Previously, these people have never\rarely been on a trail and now they are there with a motorcycle. They simply don't know the danger, the etiquette and what it takes to be courteous on the trails.
If someone is on a e-bike and behaves exactly as if it is NOT an e-bike (power input is not an issue) then that's the perfect world for me. At that point, nothing has changed other than we have more people on the trail and that is ALWAYS a good thing, full stop.
I want these people on the trail. I also want them to not behave like asses.
Full disclosure: I ride fast. My bike rides are also work-outs. I've on occasion (I hope rarely) made really bone-headed stupid moves that endangered everyone around me. I remind myself every single ride that the trail is big enough for everyone, and I don't want to make people scared or uncomfortable. So I do often go out of my way to assist or be friendly or at the very least slow down around most people.
