BIN Deals????

I felt I had a decent BIN a few weeks ago. A Teac A3300SX two track in very iffy condition from the discription and picture (they said it played the tapes but in there picture the tape was threaded all wrong) but with the hubs and original manual.... with 5- 10.5" (3 unused TDK Audua 3600ft, 2 used Ampex and 1 Scotch 2400ft's) two unopened 7" RCA 1800' tapes. The auction had a starting price of something like $19.99 but if you BIN for $140 the seller included free shipping..so I did the BIN. I asked (nicely) to pack it well... and they sent it in separate boxes... the Teac in one and all the other stuff in another. The Teac works OK after and afternoon of std maintenance and cleaning up.... though the heads are showing a bit of wear. I felt I got a good deal overall.

Just bought NM Charlie Byrd in Greenwich Village (double album: Live at the Gate and Live at the Village Vanguard) for $2.50 BIN plus 4.70 Global Air to get it here.

Snatched a single 32 band Nikko mono EQ a few weeks ago for $89. Last pair I saw on that site went for about $350.

There's a Tandberg receiver TR-1040P, AR-5 speakers, Thorens TD-160 set-up on the Bay for a VERY attractive $325 BIN right now... if you live in the UK.

Agreed, fewer and fewer BIN deals. The ones that show up often get spoiled by the opening bidder who has no intention of actually seeing it to the end.

what I used to do when I wanted to sell an item quickly and was willing to sell it a bit below the market value was have the starting bid the same price as the bu it now. that worked most of the time but I feel like some people were discouraged by the "high" starting bid which I don't understand at all. I don't understand it when people say I didn't bid on that auction because the opening bid was too high. if some mac tube amp starts at 500.00 and it usually sells for 2000.00 what's the big deal? just recently there was a pair of la scalas with a buy it now of 1300.00, nobody used the bin and they wound up selling for over 1500.00 wtf? I felt 1300.00 was a fair price.

Missed a CA-2010 a few weeks back for $275, and recently saw a Kenwood 600 for $399. Deals? Maybe not, but better than the typical going rate.
My one and only and probably last BIN was a CA-1010 for $140 - not a screaming bargain but still lower than it could have been for that amp.

I do see the odd too-good-to-be-true deal but often I think of it as a scam. A few weeks back there was a Garrard 401 that sold with a bin of $125 - about 1/3 the recent going rate. A few weeks later the feedback showed the item was never delivered - so it was a scam.

Scored a nice McIntosh MAC-4100 receiver and a pair of early AR-2ax that needed less work than I put into them for $495 a few months ago.

Essentialy, I was getting a free pair of AR speakers for the low end of the MAC-4100's price range.

I was a VERY happy camper. Still am.
