I don't recall if a service manual was used at any point in this exercise?

SPINNING!!
Ok, so after replacing all the transistors it still wasn't working. Took it to a tech. He found that I had mistakenly installed the transistors incorrectly. i had put them in the same way the old ones were installed, but it turns out the pin-out was on the opposite side. So, after verifying the gain on the new transistors, they were then installed correctly and ... bingo, we have power! We cant necessarily tell which TR was the culprit, as they were all changed at the same time.
Thanks to Pio1980 for all the time spent on this one, it's great to have a supportive community like this.
Now on to the trials to see if it can grab a place in the main system.
:thmbsp: Congrats! It was a long journey, but I'm glad you were finally able to get your DP-1200 running. I really enjoy mine, and have had many years of service out of it. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I have enjoyed mine.
Looks like the DP-1200 mat might be a Platter Matter mat. If you don't care for the Platter Matter mat I'm sure an AK member can swap another mat for it maybe an original Denon mat.
Getting used to the operation of this table after having the PL-518 in service for so long is kinda annoying. I like the semi-auto nature of the PL-518, but like the looks of the DP-1200 better. The difference in sound seems negligible at this point so more listening is required. I don't like the lack of auto-return.
I hate the sorbothane platter mat that I got with it. So when swapping I use the rubber mat from the PL-518. I have the same cartridge on each and just swap the Jico SAS between the two.
Treker, I have the same cartridge and stylus as you. Do you have any observations I should be looking/listening for?
I have had a DP-1200 since 1979, so I am very used to its operation. In fact, I am trying to get used to the totally manual nature of an AR-XA, and find myself really missing the cue up/down function and end of side tonearm kick-up of my DP-1200. It is a real pain getting used to manually setting the stylus on the record and picking it up at the end of a side while the turntable is still spinning, but I am getting used to it. It has also been many years since I have used a fully automatic turntable for any length of time, so I don’t really miss the tonearm auto-return function since I never got used to it ever being there. All that to say just give it some time and you will get used to it.
With regards to the Shure M91ED and Jico SAS stylus, I have found it to be a very nice match for this turntable and a joy to listen to for extended periods of time. I have several cartridges set up in separate headshells for use on this turntable (Ortofon OM-30, Audio Technica AT-30E, Micro Acoustics 2002E, Audio Technica LS500, and Stanton 681EEE), and find myself listening to the M91ED/Jico SAS combo more often than any of the others. (If truth be told, I also really like the Ortofon OM-30, but I don’t listen to it all that often because the stylus is pretty expensive to replace once worn out, and I listen to a lot of records.)
With regards to the platter mat, I have the original that came with my DP-1200, and it is a relatively thick rubber mat. The mat on the PL-518 looks pretty close, but it looks a little thinner from the pictures I looked at on the internet. If it would be helpful I can post a picture and measurements of mine when I get home this evening.
Awesome info...thanks! And yes, dimensions of an original mat would be beneficial, especially for stylus setup.

With regards to stylus setup, I just went with what the manual says, which is to measure 50mm from the back of the rubber washer on the headshell to the stylus tip. (The manual is available as a free download on the vinylengine.com web site if you don't already have it.) I have also played around with a couple of the stylus protractors available on vinylengine as well.
Good luck with getting your DP-1200 and Shure M91ED all dialed in.
