Birthday Present! Denon DP-1200

This is an old post, but I found it hugely useful when repairing a DP-1200. In my case, the symptoms were very similar to OP's. I found and fixed three things:
  • SW-2 the tonearm switch, had failed in the closed position - can be carefully pried apart, contacts cleaned, de-oxit, and so fixed.
  • D6 had failed as a short - this effectively defeats the solenoid operation. Replaced with a 1N4148.
  • TR3 - this took me a while: measured OK in circuit. Motor wouldn't spin up. Replaced with a 2N3904 (but careful, as pinout is different to the 2SC458 it replaces).
None of the electrolytics were bad.
