Bob Speece (wlhd1610) & my Marantz 2275

I got in touch with wlhd1610 to restore my one owner Marantz 2275 unit. Truth be told, the receiver had no flaws and sounded great, but given the age of the unit and the fact that some of the pots crackled, I always knew that a restoration might be a good idea.

Right from the get go, Bob was very professional and sent me complete details of his restoration process and the components that would be used. He was also accommodating of my timeline despite his hectic schedule and already impending projects that he had at hand. Right from the point when he received the unit up to the point the restoration was completed and the unit was shipped back to me, Bob was very communicative and willing to answer all questions I had (and trust me, I had a lot!). He sent me detailed photos of the restoration as he moved along from one board to the other and ensured complete transparency. When I received the unit it was extremely well packed and secure to the point that it took me almost 30 minutes to have it completely unpacked and set up.

The restoration was top-notch! The unit looks and sounds like brand new. Initially I wasn't sure how to feel as the sound felt colder than what I was used to with the bass feeling much lighter. But over a period of about 3 days with regular use, the sound opened up and needless to is now back to the Marantz sound I love. The main improvements are in the bass region where it was previously a little thick, but is now more defined and tight. Treble is also more airy and gives the impression of a nice and large soundstage. Overall, a big improvement in sound without a shadow of doubt. Other highlights of the restoration were the attention to little details such as the foam mount for the antenna wire as well as brand new rubber grommets for the tuner.

I've always been a little weary of shipping these types of units to have them restored as I'm anxious not only about shipping damage but also working with someone I've neither met nor know. Due to Bob's thorough transparency and communication, I had no such anxiety and have no reservation in unequivocally recommending him.
