Bookshelf Speakers

I am looking for a pair of good bookshelf speakers. They will be the main speakers for a study which has hardwood floors and is therefore pretty "live" and powered by a recent model Mcintosh IA. I am considering RBH and willing to spend up to $2000. What are the opinions on this site about the best bookshelf speakers for the money?

If possible, audition a used pair of JM Lab 907Be or Usher Tiny Dancer Be718 or similar. Used they are in your price range.

Some of the new models from Genesis Audio Technologies (the REAL Genesis, not the white van knock-off) sound VERY nice. My local shop is a Genesis dealer and I've been lucky enough to hear several of their smaller speakers (don't remember specific models off the top of my head), and they are able to get some pretty amazing bass performance from their small monitors.

B&Ws?

Or maybe something like these:

I'm a big fan of both the SS Revelators and Seas Excels.

I'm listening to a small pair of Mirage in my office now. Sounds pretty good for less than $200 Ebay. In my living room is a set of PSB stratus minis. Used around $600. It would be hard to beat these.

2 grand will get you some dang fine speakers but the general consensus of this forum is going to be on finding things we DON'T have to buy new for $2000 a pair. I rep Canton which makes some high end bookshelf speakers that I can get for below sheet but even at that, I don't want 'em. I'd rather have the other things I've found for way cheaper that were the "shiznit" in their own day.

Good luck....

save your money. smaller advents. done.

Some aspects of the Smaller Advent's measured performance were positive. For example, it reminded me of the benefits for bass performance of a well-tuned sealed box, compared with the reflex designs that are now ubiquitous. But despite its relatively even balance through the midrange and low treble, the Advent's tweeter is a total underperformer compared with modern designs, and its cabinet is way too resonant.--John Atkinson

I bought Aurum Cantus speakers (U.S. version; and yes, it does matter). Here is the official site of the sole authorized U.S. importer:

I use the Leisure 2SE (original U.S. version, not the newer "Signature" version, which is probably very slightly better than what I have). I do not plan on ever upgrading, unless I choose to go with something that isn't a bookshelf speaker.
