So I’m wrapping up my restoration of a Bose 901 Series I Equalizer, new caps and resistors throughout, and something strange happened. The neon light hasn’t worked since I got it, and I’ve yet to deal with a replacement. But yesterday when I (thought I) was finished and put it all back together, I had no output. Turned out after an hour of testing that a wire had broken loose going to the power switch, no big deal.
The odd side effect was that without the connection, my neon works! Once it’s fixed, nothing. This also lead me to notice that my power switch isn’t actually working, and turning it off has no effect. The Eq is definitely on as flipping tape monitor on/off makes a huge difference, but... what’s the deal?
I admittedly am handier with a soldering iron than I am knowledgeable about what I’m actually doing, so maybe someone could clear this up. Should I just replace both my switch and bulb? I had a theory about the bulb getting more power because the rest of the circuit wasn’t getting it? Just about the only two things I haven’t replaced are the resistors in the switch, so maybe that’s something to do with it... I’m going to mess with it some more tonight but any insight would be appreciated.
