BOSE 901/EQ not working

I just swamped out my receiver after using my 901's and the EQ successfully for years (one of the channels was cutting out). Now when i reconnected the EQ it doesn't seem to be working (movement of the treble and bass makes no difference when i slide the button) Tape 2 monitor when i press it makes no output and its connected to the Tape 2 Monitor on the back of the receiver as well. Any advice? Receiver is an Onkyo TX8211.

Some newer gear does not have true tape monitor circuit, regardless that the buttons or jack labeling suggests they do.

I would look into that aspect before presuming the EQ is defective. Now, maybe it will end up being the EQ, but the Tape Mon situation and connections need to be fully bottomed out before presuming a defective EQ.
 
Does the EQ iteself have any "engage", "disengage" or "bypass" button? I'm sure you know that EQ pretty well if you have used it before. Just trying to check all of the boxes in the troubleshooting department...

Which means the 901 EQ must be connected to the Tape 2 jacks and the Tape 2 button engaged for the 901 EQ to be "in the loop".

(IOW, as the OP initially stated.)

Something else one could try would be to simply connect the Tape 2 Rec and Play jacks with a pair of cables then engage the Tape 2 monitor. Should get sound, which confirms the tape monitor function.
 
By process of elimination it was the Bose EQ that went out. I ordered a replacement from Deer Creek Audio and it worked. I ordered it on a Wednesday and got it Friday, right before our Halloween party. Literally hours to spare. Thanks for the help guys.

In terms of comparison, its slightly less clear than the EQ from Bose, but i'm thrilled to say the least that i didn't box up the 901's for good.

What Series are they/is the EQ?

Have you checked with Bose? Since they've been discontinued for a while not sure what their service policy is but never know, one might be surprised. They're usually pretty fair with customer service. They're not going to send you service technical info, but they might still repair them or offer some sort of exchange option.
 
My first post here but I just recapped and re op-amped my 901 eq when i did a full surround. Took about 30 mins. I would def look into that. I have the same series.
 
I am original owner of Series II's, when my EQ went out about 4 years ago, called Bose, they had a UPS call ticket for my home, it went south, repaired and returned in a few weeks...$66.00! Think it was a flat rate, not an exchange but repair to mine.

I'll have about 1/2 that in caps for my Series II eq, plus my time to diagnose and my time to fix. If they still have something like that, I'd consider it a pretty fair deal!
