Great. Thanks so much! I looked for your original rebuild thread, but I havent found it yet. --Appreciate the info. I did the surrounds on my A400's but I have the original crossovers. Sound great to me right now, but tri-amping may take it to the next level.

this is a great thread. i just picked up a pair for $200, and in very impressed with the sound. ill be lookin to recap em soon.

The a400 have a real chintzy crossover , parts are on press hard card board and it’s glued to the cabinet !
To remove it, heat it up with hair dryer, when hot enough , glue will soften and you can pull it up, keep heating aim dryer between board and cabinet , pull up.

Just like the A200s I used to own. And don't get me started with the stupid spring loaded binding posts that almost always break. ;)

Replace all caps with film caps ( some of the crap electrolytics in mine were out of spec ) and redo ferrofluid ( very easy) and they’ll sound amazing .

Acc to a B/A engineer, installing ferrofluid was no simple affair. The quantity of fluid was metered with exacting precision and even distribution within the gap cut into the magnet. Too much or too little FF will alter the FR characteristics of the tweeter.

Under no circumstances should it be casually added.
