Boston Acoustics best model? opinions needed

The VR3 has also the little tweeter with the acoustical filter rod in front of it from the Lynnfield serie. If the same as the 400L I have, it has a resonance frequency around 2100/2200 Hz with broad smooth very low impedance peak there, around 3 ohms above the average impedance of the driver raw (without its passive filter). Of course also in the VRMs.

From someone (not me) who owns both the VR-M90 and VR3 and has compared them closely:

The VRHO tweeter, the one used in the VR3, is heavier and has a double stack of neo magnets compared to the single magnet in the M90 tweeter. The VRHO tweeter has a large, integrated, polished aluminum heatsink, whereas the M90 tweeter is mechanically positioned against a smaller, brushed aluminum heatsink.

How good are the VR3s? Anyone know?

Well I think they are amazing. Still using everyday in my home theater/music listening room. I use them with subs but they go pretty low on their own. Great detail and clarity but like all BA products they are never fatiguing to my ear. Easy to drive too.

I am happy to hear that as I just acquired a set and take delivery tomorrow!

Congratulations! Did you get the black or cherry model? As much as I've always liked these speakers, once I spent some quality time working on placement (distance from wall, toe-in, etc) and installed acoustic treatments did they really shine for me. Some food for thought.

Unfortunately black, but they look to be in great condition. My main listening space is treated quite extensively, and I really look forward to wringing them out! This is encouraging!

Also on AVS Forum there is a member (Steve Cahill I believe) who was a big fan of these and posted a lot of comparisons to other speaker models.

What speakers are being replaced by the VR3's? I've always found that when I listen to new speakers I need to give my ears/brain a few days to adjust to the different sound signature - especially if the previous speakers were very different in brightness, forwardness, etc.

They are going up against my JBL L150As. We shall see!

L150As heading to storage this weekend…

The VR-3s are in virtual brand new condition and it turns out that they are. I spent a few hours putting a bunch of different genres of music through them. All I can say is that from a pure performance standpoint I have real trouble understanding any criticism that might be leveled at them. They produce good punchy bass, clear highs and mids, and basically do everything asked of them. Great match for my PS Audio amplifier.

I can not comment on what the best BA speakers are but I have a pair of A100 that I have held on to as they are one of the best sounding budget speakers I have ever owned.

I have a pair of A100s too. They’re a really good speaker! I gave my A70s away to a good cause (a buddy really needed a system), but will likely get another pair.

Very cool! As much as I'm impressed by and love all of my A-series models, my VR3s just have clarity and dyamics that's so sweet. It's a shame they are not around anymore.

The A series is the biggest bargain in the used speaker market.
Personally, they are all good but get extremely good starting at the A150. The 200 and 400 could be end-all models for most of us living within budgets.

Hi,

Is there anyone or Boston Acoustics people that are knowing the Lynfield 500L II filters values about the mid and treble units (mainly caps and resistors values) please ?

Many thanks.

Starting your own thread with what you are looking for in the title will get more eyes on you question.

VR-M90's

Every once and a while while I'm cruising CL for audio equipment I might see a nice set of speakers and start to wonder about letting the BA's go. Saw a nice pair of DCM TimeFrames this morning on a local audio store's ad and started to wonder. I know they are nice speakers and they looked to be in very good condition. Hmmmm. Since we've been in down sizing mode, the Mrs gets upset when I bring something in if something else isn't going out. Then I turned on some music and heard Robert Plant's remastered Ship of Fools come on. The string plucks, sticks clacking together, and Roberts vocals made the hairs on my neck stand up.

Nope, what was I thinking! They're staying! :)

That is all.

I've been in that same boat a few times as well. My BA's seem to make it easy to stop overanalyzing everything and just enjoy listening to my music.

That seems highly unlikely, as the vrm was most definitely the better USA build version of the vr1,2,3 series that were build in Malaysia. With steel stamped basket drivers.

Also as far as I know , they never used double stack magnet tweeters. The AMD tweeters, those are virtually all the same in every series that has them

They had black anodized aluminum domes , normal aluminum, and the textile domes (same frame motor as the aluminum amds)
