I have the A100 and they compare nicely to A set of Dynaco A40xl that I also have. The A400 are considered top of the line BA. $20 is a steal.

If you get them - don't be afraid if they need to be refoamed.
That's common for these and the parts can be found easy enough on ebay.
Also - on the set that I have (which replaced my Klipsch RF-3ii in the bedroom - they sound that good :yes
one of the woofers had been replaced and then wired out of phase - so if they sound anemic - then that could be the problem.

Actually, I bought them yesterday. I guess I didn't do a good job of explaining that.
I was just wondering what other people thought of them. Myself, I'm not a big BA fan. I bought them because they were so cheap and I knew they were nice speakers.

Well if you wanted to know how folks liked em you could have posted in Speakers and asked about them and told folks you bought them for 20 bucks. You are not asking value, you are asking opinions on sound. Different forum for that.

If you have a chance, could you pull the woofers and post pics at some point? Not a lot of info out there on them (other than they were TOTL), and I'm interested in whether both woofers are the same.

I am pretty sure both woofers are the same because they almost have to be the same to share the same space. I know there are exceptions but those are not that common and I am sure many things have to be worked out for a low bass and a midbass to operate correctly in the same box.

at post #23, the woofers are simply in parallel.

They would not use two woofers in such a system in parallel if not identical.

Great speakers. I just bought some for about 10x what you paid. You can get correct surrounds from looneytune2001 on eBay and I also know where you can get a set of new wooden bases/stands if yours are falling apart, as they tend to do.
