Brussels Sprouts Poetry

Those sprouts from Brussels,
I will eat,
Tho' frankly I think they smell like feet.
You may think Belgians rather awful,
But ya gotta say
They make a tasty waffle!

Speaking of the Belgians, did you know some of them went over to the Nazi side during the war? There was a special contingent who helped the Germans ferret out the Belgian underground.

They called them the Waffle SS.

Scientific Explanation

How odd, how timely, I just read the following in Mother Earth News today in a multi page layout on Brussels sprouts:

The Ick Factor: A Scientific Explanation
"If you're a member of the crowd who detests Brussels sprouts, there may be a scientific explanation for your aversion...A study published in Current Biology concludes that some people's palates may be gnenetically wired to react more strongly to the bitter compounds knows as glucosinolates found in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, radishes and turnips. "

Chemistry to the rescue. So, there may be a perfectly plausible explanation for you poor souls. You're just genetic freaks. :scratch2:

Mother Earth News......

When I was oh, 9 or so, my mom read about some miracle cure for some cold I had that involved eating chopped raw onions with something else (lemon or mustard seeds or something) mixed with it.

She wanted to write in and tell them how wonderfully this cure worked. I remember sitting up in bed with a fever and having her try to convince me that the way she'd done it, it tasted like applesauce

After about 20 minutes of cajoling, I finally gave in....and in about ten seconds flat proceeded to projectile vomit all over her :puke:

Good times, good times.....

Oh Gawd, what a tale.

Just don't blame Mother Earth News. Blame your Mother! She should have known to tweak it with Laudenum and Sulfate of Arsenic to deaden the heave reflex.
