Building a Plinth -- TD-124

Plasticaly is a non-hardening modeling clay. Its totally inert and very heavy, perfect for deadening a turntable plinth. In fact, I have built 2 tables myself, based on the AR bearing, platter/subplatter and pulley. The innards of both of those tables are filled with plasticlay.

That would have been easier to work with than lead pellets!!! next time....

Why didn't you put in leveling legs?

I've been thinking about this and it's not too late to do that. The sorbothane feet are just glued. The plinth was so heavy it really flattened the sorbothane and left very little room at the bottom and I had to go back and add a little more wood above the sorbothane. For better air flow for the motor I think it would be better to have the plinth higher off the ground and leveling legs might be just the thing. Any recommendations?

Well, there are always "T" nuts and the usual cone points, like you can get from parts express. Maybe your thinking on the sorbothane is an the the right directing too. Vibrapod footers are made from sorbohane and they come in different weight ratings. For example they have some that might support up to ...say 100 lbs (25# each). that would keep your plinth and table from collapsing the feet. The vibrapods could be mounted to a circular wood foot, with a stud in it that could then be threaded into a T nut for adjustability for leveling the table and giving it air circulation room.

Hi, having just received my own TD 124, I came upon your thread.

Lovely looking plinth.

Just one question/concern (but feel free to educate me): You installed an earth wire where the original power cable only had the 2 cores.
Won't that create an opportunity for a ground loop? Or are you not connecting the chassis ground to the amp?
