Buying TT (Yamaha GT-2000L) from Hi-Fi Do. Pictures of packing.

Hi.
I recently bought a Yamaha GT-2000L from Hi-Fi Do, and prior to doing this I found much useful info on the AK forum. Much praise from other AK members that Hi-Fi Do did a great job of packing convinced me to buy from them, and not from a japanese auction site.

The turntable arrived to Norway in 5 days and was indeed well packed. To help any others wanting to buy from hifido, I decided to post some pictures of how they did it.

Great service! Buy with confidence.

Kenny

Kenny - I think it would be great if you could pack it up and ship it to me like that :)

Wow...I want that table!!!!!

Nice back 'yard' !

Yeah, never mind about the turntable! :)

As some of you know, my wife is from Japan, and if there is anything I've learned from the experience, it's that Japanese people do not do a "half-job" (as my wife would say). They are a very meticulous people, which is why Japanese-made products also tend to last a long time.

As anyone who has visited a Japanese department store can attest, the Japanese have also "written the book" on packaging things. The unwrapping is a part of the tactile experience as far as they're concerned, it should feel like you're unwrapping a present. It just makes the experience that much more enjoyable.

Congratulations on a terrific purchase.

Thank you. I'm very pleased with the yard. best of all: no need for a lawnmower :-)

Great for you, not so great for me.....but I understand your cravings :-) I had it 2 days ago!

I know what you mean! I went shopping for used LP's in Tokyo last year, and I didn't even bother looking at the state of the vinyl before I bought it. I knew it was in great shape anyway. That is not the case back home sadly.....
And the TT I bought which is 30 years old looks like it was new a couple of years ago! Seems as if the Japanese take good care of their belongings.

Yes, that has been my experience as well! I don't even bother examining the vinyl when I go used record shopping in Japan.

Incidentally, it is not easy to find vintage items in Japan. Japanese homes do not have a lot of space, so people tend to throw stuff away when they're done using it, even if it still works perfectly. And until fairly recently, there was a stigma against buying used items; you never see old beater cars on the roads, for example.

That said, I have found some great stuff at flea markets in Tokyo and Yokohama. The first time I went there with my wife-to-be, back in 1994, we went to a flea market in Harajuku. My Japanese was still very rudimentary at the time, so it was kind of scary negotiating prices with the vendors, many of whom were grubby looking guys who were sitting there getting loaded on cheap sake.

I have many times thought of buying from them, but all the usual concerns about shipping came up. Nice to see they handle that so well.

BTW, congratulations on getting a wonderful turntable. I can't wait to read your listening impressions.

I wish I could see the smile on your face when you play your first record. :D

It'll sound incredible. Unbelievably, it sounds much better with a concerted effort dedicated to the support that it is placed upon. I have arrived at an expensive (and wonderful) support solution, but if I were to start over again from scratch I'd get a MinusK unit and be done with it.

Enjoy your treasure. :thmbsp:

Very nice. I have bought some smaller items from them and as I have told you before was thinking of buying a GT-2000L myself from them before I got my PD-350. Do you mind telling what the shipping to Norway was (should be the same to Sweden I guess).

Wonderful, and that yard! You're living the dream. I've thought before about buying a GT-2000 from Japan. Nice to see a detailed report of part of the experience.

Me too - gave up and went VPI Classic instead. Looking forward to hearing what you think of it...

Thank you :) I had the multiple concerns also, and nearly ordered a TT several times before I chickened out.

Here is one more picture of the packaging: the original package was still intact and inside another box! This TT would have survived Ragnarok:thmbsp:

Thank you for your advice. But for now my system upgrade plans are far more basic and low cost ;-)
I've recently ordered the Dali Mentor 1 speakers (I live in a flat with limited space). And on monday I'm going to my local Hi-Fi store to try out the speakers with 3 different amplifiers. So if anybody has some experience with the following amps, please share :)

NAD C356BEE
NAD C375BEE
Denon PMA-1510AE

Hi.
The shipping and insurance was a hefty 50000 yen:tears: But still worth it:yes:

By the way, i took your advice and ordered a Denon dl-103 to use with the pretty heavy arm. Thanks.

That was my idea for the thread. So that others can see what a great job HiFido do before shipping, and then maybe finding it easyer to order one:-)

Glad that my yard is getting so much attention:) In a country with an endless coastline and where people are few, good views are not that uncommon, but I still appreciate it very very much. Specially at breakfast, spinning vinyl and watching the sun rise:thmbsp:

Here is a better picture of my "yard" taken today :-)

Norway (Trondheim to be exact) is stunning. Was there with the USS Guadalcanal, doing OPS in the North Atlantic.

I went to study in Trondheim, and lived there for almost 6 years. Now I,ve moved home to Aalesund, about 300 km south from Trondheim. Not far from the famous Geirangerfjorden.
