c29 with two connected AMPs ?

Hello all,

I understand that two AMPs can be connected at the C29's back. Each AMP is then connected with its own speakers.
But how do I control the two AMPs (2505 & 2105) from the C29's front & switch phono (each phono connected to other AMP) music between them ?

Not sure what you mean by "switch phono music between amps"

Not sure what you're trying to accomplish.

Perhaps these will help. The phono are only inputs for connecting two (2) turntables. When you have two (2) amps connected, anything you do, like adjusting the volume, will be fed to both amps.

Have you checked in the 'digital docs' forum for the C29 owner's manual? If you cannot find there, PM with your e-mail address and I'll send you a copy.

I want to connect two sets of AMP+Speakers+Phono to the same Pre (C29) & be able to play music from each set (not at the same time) without changing cables.
But how do I "say" to the C29 which set is now active ?

Ok I think I understand. You want to be able to toggle between each amp from the C29. Unfortunately, this will not be possible. The only way will be to shut the speakers off directly at each amp or by shutting the power off to the amp for the speaker pair you do not wish to use.

The C29 needs a seperate relay device (SCR 2) in order to use the "Speakers 1/2" function. Even then, it will not be able to be used with two amps.

This might be ok - let me understand if I understood you corrcetly :
I will connect two AMPs to the C29.
I will connect two speakers to each AMP.
I will turn on just AMP-1 & then will hear just from AMP-1's speakers.
I will shut off AMP-1 & turn on AMP-2 & then will hear just from AMP-2's speakers.

Right ?

Ofer: Since you only intend to use one pair of speakers at a time, why not pick up an SCR 2 and use only one amp? That will enable you switch between the speakers from the C29 as you wanted.

Just a suggestion.

yes and just nto be clear you only need to turn off the speaker switch on the amps. this way you wont have to wait for warm up time.

I want to use/add an additional MC AMP to my collection & use the same pair of speakers for both AMPs. Now I know that I can connect two AMPs to C28
or C29, but will have to buy two more spaekers..

Ooooooh. Be careful there. If you connect TWO amps to ONE speaker pair- Make sure you turn OFF the speaker switch (preferably Power OFF as well) for the amp you're not using.

To hook up 1 pair of speakers to 2 amps is a bad idea even if you can find a switcher to do it. The front push buttons labeled spk/output 1 and 2 will control the signal to 2 amps (each with a speaker pair) when the amps are connected to output 1 and 2 instead of main.

These two buttons will also control the optional different SCR switchers depending on which preamp and assuming you do not use two amps.

The 29 does that? They're both labled "MAIN" without "1/2" so I assumed the signal was always fed to both outs. That's interesting to know.

I stand corrected,,, it has been only 30 years since i sold one and sold many more C32s than 29s. Pulled out the schematic and the two outputs are just paralleled like an internal y plug. Would need to turn off at amps to cut out non wanted speakers.

The C32,33 etc do have anp 1 and 2 output with front control switches.

That's fine: One speaker pair to one amp; 2 amps fed by the C29.

You can play both pair at the same time, or only play only one pair at a time if you prefer. Leaving an amp ON that's not in use will not affect anything.

Sure, you use the "CTR" outs for two mono amps if you like.

I just wouldn't connect two amps to one speaker.

Playing a mono (Center) speaker with a pair of stereo speakers will affect your soundstaging.
