C48 upgrade

I bit the bullet and purchased a C50, will have it in about a week's time. Currently I'm using C2300 with a Cary Xciter DAC for my computer music, it will be interesting to find out how different the C50 will be.

I had a long debate if I should get another C2300 as I like to try different tubes, but after reading the performance of the C50 here, decided to give it a try. Will post back once it's here, patiently waiting .....

I too have the Xciter DAC. Wondering how it compares. With USB I can only get 16/44.1 connection rate. With optical I can get higher rates. Let me know how you do using the C50 with USB.

Ron,

adding a C50 into an equation of a system with a MX150, does that make sense?
I heard the C50, and it was MAGNIFICENT!!! It was playing with a MVP871, through digital. I wasn't so impressed with the analog of the 871, but with the digital, it's a different league!

The C50 has a passthru, so that it works well integrated with a HT setup. Is there a way where I can also utilize the room perfect of the MX150?

Thanks!
enit.

If you run C50 as a stereo preamp and then add to MX150 to control the C50 in pasthrough, you will only have MX150's RP when MX150 is running the system.

Thanks,
Ron-C

Looks like it will be next week for the preamp, for sure I'll compare the DAC to Xciter, will post back results.

Took home the C50 and just had it hooked up. Will be doing some running around later today, just hooked up the tuner and it sounds pretty good. It seems to have a wider soundstage than my C2300, will play with it more tonight once I can sit down and have some critical listening.

Anyone happen to have a PDF manual of C50? I'd like to have it on the computer and iPad for reference? Much appreciate your help.

Looks like the headphone output doesn't automatically mute the main out once plugged in? If I wanted to use the remote to shut off the output to the amp, only option is to use OUTPUT1 for the main amp, then toggle on/off at the front panel or through remote?

Haven't tried the phones seriously, it's more for the remote macros. I know I should have spent more time listening than setting up the universal remote!

I have a URC MX-880, it doesn't have the database for C50. I'm surprised C2300 doesn't work on the C50. I tried picking C500 from the database and tried, but no go. I'm okay learning all the buttons but some don't work very good. Have to do a few presses to get a response.

Yes, I believe the main output is always active, outputs 1 & 2 are both switched.
The PDF of the C48 Owners Manual is on the Mc site, but for some reason the C50 documentation is still MIA

Battle a bit for the remote codes, still can't get OUTPUT1 and OUTPUT2 working 100%. I can't seem to find a EQ Bypass IR code either, this would be nice for a marco for headphone listening. I found I need to tune the 50Hz a bit for my Senn HD800, so I'd like to leave the EQ as is, just engage EQ Bypass when I'm not using the phones.

Back to the listening, I think the headphone out surpass the one with C2300 with more dynamics and tighter bass.

In regards to my speaker setup, it's very close to the C2300 when listening to FM with my Sansui TU-9900, but with the computer setup using USB out from my Windows 7 PC using iTunes, imaging is very 3 dimensional compared to my Cary Xciter feeding into the C2300. I haven't tried connecting the Xciter to the C50 using analog in and switch back and forth. So far I'm happy with the performance of C50, just hope I can get the IR codes sorted out with my remote, then I'm all set.

My setup is kinda embrassing at the moment, the Mac's are sitting on a computer desk, and it's in the un-finished basement. Been spending too much on equipment, can't afford to get the basement done. Will try to snap a few pics and post.
