C52 Newest Firmware Version

Does anyone know what the newest firmware for the C52 is?

Right now I have a C47 and it's great but unfortunately it has a very annoying "feature" where the USB input mutes itself whenever nothing is playing and then the volume ramps back up when the source starts playing again. McIntosh claims this is intentional in order to prevent potential noise but in affect it just means I always miss the first half second or so whenever I start something playing.

This problem is seemingly fixed with the newer units which use the DA1 and DA2 as well as the D1100 by adding an option to disable the automute "feature".

I read in another forum that it seems like the most recent firmware update to the C52 ads the automute defeat feature but for whatever reason McIntosh won't tell me if that is indeed the case.

I don't know why they would have updated the C52 but not the C47 seeing as they have the same DAC section.

I was planning on replacing my C47 with a new C8 with the DA2 module to try and fix my issue with the C47 but when I talked to my local dealer they have an open box C52 for the same price that's why I'm wondering if anyone with the C52 has the automute disable option and if so does it actually fix the issue?

If it does I think I'm going to get the C52 since it's a much better preamp than my C47 or the C8.

Desktop PC Windows shared mode, Apple MacBook Pro 13" 2020 version, iPad Pro 2020 all show the exact same behavior. I talked to McIntosh and it is performing as designed.
 
I'm with you Logan. As much as I love my C52, that is one "feature" that I wish they gave us the option to enable or disable.

BTW, can you point us to that forum post about the new firmware?

I saw it on the Roon forums: https://community.roonlabs.com/t/mcintosh-first-1-2-second-of-song-missing-resolved-ish/14085 The last post seems to indicate that it might not be completely fixed which is why I was asking here. Maybe you can get the firmware from McIntosh and check it yourself.
 
Old Macbook Pro, C52 V1.00, using iTunes (Music), playing through USB and cannot detect any issue (missing the 1st second)

It usually only occurs when starting a track or video. pause the song wait a second then start it again and you should hear the sound fade in.
 
I have been playing many songs and cannot detect it.
Well, I enjoy the music so pausing means the end of the music session and time to do something else.

It doesn't just happen when you pause it also can happen every time a new song starts depending on how the player deals with tracks.

It doesn't look like firmware updates can be applied by the end user and will have to be taken into McIntosh, Audioclassics or some other authorized service center. With that said, I'm gonna reach out tomorrow to see if in fact there is a v1.07 firmware update. My c52 is at v1.06.

I'll let you know when I find out.

Awesome I would love to know for sure if the automute disable feature is in fact added and if it works. And by the way I was able to update my C47's firmware myself. McIntosh emailed me the file and instructions. It wasn't that difficult although there is a theoretical risk of bricking it so it's probably a good idea to have a dealer or service center do it I was just impatient so I did it myself.

Oh, good to know that McIntosh will email you the firmware file along with instructions. And being an IT tech, I definitely feel good about doing it myself. I'll report back sometime later this week.

Hold the phone! I was just sent a Beta Firmware v1.07. Gonna try to install it today if I get the time. I'll report back.
 
After talking with Ryan Kilpatrick from AudioClassics, I'm back in business!

Part of the update directions were just slightly (but enough) misleading. I triple checked a setting and managed to get it updated.

I'll report back about the 'Auto-mute' feature when I'm finished with my work day. If I can even call it that. :-)
