C52 Newest Firmware Version

Part of the update directions were just slightly (but enough) misleading. I triple checked a setting and managed to get it updated.

I'll report back about the 'Auto-mute' feature when I'm finished with my work day. If I can even call it that. :)

Great news. Can't wait to hear if the problem is solved. If it is it will make my decision between the C8 and the C52 much easier.

While v1.07 DOES include the 'Auto Mute' function to be enabled/disabled from the menu, sadly, it does not fix my 'lead-in silence' problem.

I compared the c52 (vis USB) with my other DAC and the Mcintosh goes into 'Silent Mode' between tracks of particular albums while the other DAC does not. Now, please bear in mind that not every album (tracks) exhibits this behavior, which leads me to believe that this might also have to do with how some tracks have 'silence' inserted into them, most likely at the end.

Still a killer preamp though.

I just ran a quick test by listening to three different albums (separate tracks) and looked and listened for the fade-in auto mute thing and it was still present toggled ON and OFF. So I really can't say in what scenario it is going to be affective.

Interesting. I wonder if maybe that beta firmware doesn't actually do anything aside from add the menu option. Can you check with some streaming playback specifically stuff like youtube, hulu, netflix etc? I mostly use my computer for streaming playback and that's where it is most noticeable for me.

Does anyone really know what the "auto mute" feature is supposed to do? Does McIntosh even know if it's compatible with all streaming services or if it's dependent on individual recordings? Sounds like it might work intermittently dependent on certain factors, and I'm guessing it won't be a reliable solution no matter what preamp you choose. My C47 does exactly what I want a preamp to do and this so-called feature is insignificant to me because I never use notoriously wonky USB inputs.

When there is a change of file format or bit rate in a given playlist of tracks, there is, usually, a minor "click" noise during the change. This "auto-mute" is designed to mute that "click", at the expense of a few milliseconds of music or signal.

Ok. C8 it is then. You've been really helpful. I'm still not 100% sure the DA2 fixes the problem but I haven't seen anyone complaining about the fade in problem with any of the DA1/DA2 pres so hopefully it's fixed.
 
In the C47 thread, its being reported that the 1.07 firmware does in fact disable the mute fixing this issue. I wonder if the 1.07 (beta) that was used wasnt fully operation.
