Tom Danley was very keen on the sound of the Radian 475 though not their reliability under heavy professional use, he used them in his home system some years back, a system that sure as Hell sounded swell to me.
I came up with something a little out of the mainstream, but I mounted an array of Frazier horn tweeters on top of my 1005b/288b combo, all wired up in series to create a nominal 16-20 ohm load to match the other drivers. It looks odd, but as dshoaf and some other AK'ers can testify, it works remarkably well....

It's like seasoning a fine piece of beef, just a dab will do ya, and part of the secret sauce is getting that dab evenly dispersed over roughly the same coverage pattern as your MF.
As much as the mention of them will make some folks cringe, this can even be done with piezos to very good effect if done properly. Hell, Klipsch successfully marketed the idea to the pro sound community 30 years ago.

Looks like a European interpretation of an original Shearer System. But for the handles on the compression drivers, the HF section screams "Vitavox" to me.

I envy you guys somewhat. Cause you guys manage to find all this awesome stuff like it just pops up all the time on the corner for free pickup. It took me years to get a pair of altecs at my affordable price range and they're usually rarer than teeth's hen state I live in it seems. I mean I would expect me having much more successful scores since I live in the most populated and crowded state in the US(Nj) but, I don't... Awesome though seeing these pics on here. I was always fascinated by altec horns since I got into hi-fi and pro audio(basic home recording and blah blah blah) over 12yrs ago and counting.
Not true. The pro stuff is more common than you think. The trick is learning the patterns of its distribution, and the signs of its removal. Churches, auditoriums, and movie theaters. Renovation and/or closure.
I got my main system right here on AK from a thread that was posted by a theater manager. Everyone else wanted to debate the style of the cabinets, and months later, I came along upon the thread, called the fellow and bought them on the spot over the phone. Of course, a lot also depends on how bad you want them. Once I laid my money down, I had to figger out how to remotely pack and ship over a ton of Altecs from Western Nebraska to North Carolina. Took a lot of effort and 9 months along with more cash then the cost of the speakers themselves, but I got them here. People that hear them say that they've never heard a system like them.
