Calling All Yamahas. Time to Post Your Pics

You're craftsmanship looks excellent, but IMO the CR-3020 veneer should be closer to stock. Macassar Ebony is readily available, easy to work with, and beautiful.

We all like different things. Part of me agrees with you, yet a bigger part doesn't. Oak doesn't appeal to me at all, but if the owner likes it that is what counts. I had my cr-1020 done in rosewood, which I'm sure other people don't care for at all but I can't take my eyes off of it.

This is what the CR-2040 should have looked like from the gitgo, Santos Rosewood, not imitation Macassar Ebony. Had to take down the Cassette and CDP so I could remove the cover and Deoxitize the phono switch so I thought I would take a picture. Yes, Macassar Ebony is readily available as long as you don't mind parting with your firstborn. I just got in another batch of the Santos, absolutely flat and that is not that easy to find as it often has bubbles in it. Wear a mask when sanding it is mildly toxic - so is the ebony.

Wow Rob, so I'm not the only one with a rosewood cab on Yamaha gear?

Pity that yours runs the wrong direction..... :beerchug:

Yeah well what can I say, we old farts usually get things wrong. There is going to be another shortly as a fellow AK'er decided that Santos Rosewood was the way to go with his 2040. Problem is that Home Despot decided to stop carrying that anodized bronze paint on the vent and I hate black.

As always, sterling work by Rob. :thmbsp: Would you be interested in redoing a set of JBL L65 cabinets for me? I'll be in touch.

Here are my latest ventures in vintage Yamahaland (and what a wonderful audio land to be in ).

Black CT-7000 arrived and immediately tossed onto the top shelf, fired her up and away we go. Unlike the silver CT-7000, it has the Madagascar ebony veneer. Even came with the original OM which was specific to the black-faced model. :thmbsp: My most sincere thanks to Chip-HP for not only putting me onto this truly rare find, but in assisting in the safe shipment of same. Thank you, thank you, thank you. It is a beauty and sounds as good as it looks.

Congratulations Yamaha B-2. :thmbsp: :D

You've moved-up the foodchain of Yamaha source components by a large margin in the recent times.

There's no substitute for upgrading the source.

Have you ever seen or heard of another Black-faced 7000?
Yours is the only one I ever recall seeing.
I like it's looks better that the rare silver faced B-2s or C2xs(they end-up looking kind of 'plasticky').:thumbsdn:

That's quite a project mjalazard.

Actually Readytech is doing the rebuild...he should get the credit...I'm all thumbs.
The cabinet is actually Cherry wood, not oak. The photo of the polishe receiver is an example of what Chris does.

Yes, I was aware of the black-faced CT-7000. Have seen pic's of a few in the U.S. and a few more in Europe. Also, the first B-2 I helped someone restore was in the UK. The donor unit was a set of VFETs from a silver B-2 several years ago. Wish I had purchased the face-plate at the time. But did not realize just how rare it was. And, I've never heard of a silver C-2x. That is a new one on me. Think I'm going to take the face-plate and knobs off of my A-2000 and have them anodized black to match the CT-7000. Also, there is at least one in Australia. A fellow that posts on the FM Tuners Yahoo forum is from Australia and had a black one he sold in the past few months. He was never happy with the techs he had to work on it and they could never seem to get it right. Mine sure is 'right'. Latin jazz from 10-midnight. :thmbsp:

Jeez - can't believe how good these NS-500s sound with tubes. Will probably throw the B-2 into the mix tomorrow. :D

I'm 100% certain I saw a picture of a silver-faced C2x.:scratch2:

To me it looked horrible.:yuck:

Imagine a silver PX-2. :nono: :thumbsdn:

As I've opined many times I love the look of those old Yammie receivers.I don't think they would have looked as nice in black.

The 7000 however looks quite nice.
A nice alternative. :thmbsp:

Looks amazing Glenn... gotta love that black, minimalist fascia, and then the subtle lighted dial. Are the NS-500 the ones with the Be tweeters ?

I was going to ask as it did not look like any oak I have ever seen. I have some rayed oak veneer on hand but I am not overly fond of it.

Was it the CR-710 that was available in black-face in Japan, Canada and Europe? Same with one of the CA models (CA-X1?). They look pretty good to me. Someone recently posted a couple of pic's of same on AK. A silver-faced C-2x would not match any Yamaha amp as it was not being made when the B-2 was and none of the later amps, other than the M-2000/10000 were offered in silver (to the best of my knowledge) and they had their own dedicated preamps, the CX-2000/10000.

The NS-500 is the one with the Be tweeters. Was going to get a set of Joseph RM7si Mk2 2-way speakers, but I'll listen to these for quite some time, first. They match particularly well with the 10" powered sub I'm using

Here is a better pic of the mods on the terminals. Am out of RTV, so will have to pull and seal and square the terminals once I get to HD. And do a little better job of cleaning away the plastic filings.

Here's a pic of the front. Have both grills in good shape and will put them on for my listening. They do not harm the sound very much and keeps the cats away from the woofers.

PX-2 is quite obvious, in the rack. PX-3 is to left, shown immediately above the left speaker and sitting on the A-2000.

Guess you could call those "Yamaha speaker" stands. :D

Don't mention sleep.:nono:

I worked a night shift(22:45 to 07:15),it's 11:50 am here and I'm staying awake until 22;30 tonight.
I start work again at 07:00 tomorrow.:scratch2:

Glad it made it safe and sound ... somehow I missed your post.
