Can anyone here admit they like doof-doof music?

jeffn

Mid-Fi Crisis
If you don't know, Doof-Doof music is so-named because when the owners of said doof-doof drive around with their caps on backwards all you hear emanating from the car is the DOOF DOOF DOOF of the bass.

And when you hear the music up close, its still just doof-doof-doof

These songs seem like they are written purely for purposes of doof-doof.

Can anyone take the side of doof-doof and explain its attraction?

Spelled backwards, "Doof Doof" is "Food Food". These guys are hungry, so they go after the doof doof hoping to satify their appetites. They think putting the caps on backwards will turn the "doof" around and into "food", allowing them to eat it backwards (i.e., as food). Nobody said they were over-intelligent... probably the cocktail of ecstacy and other drugs. Sixties drugs made a lot more sense. At least when people "got the munchies" after eating brownies, they went for real food. Incidentally, the root of the term "doofus" is closely related to "doof doof". :D

I think it's an age, maturity thing. I remember wanting bass and a loud system as a teen. What really gets my goat is the dudes who can't even dampen the outside of the car, all you hear is the rattle of sheet metal!!!!! Usually you can find them prowling the parking lots of malls testing their bass limits and the nerves of people around them.

I was fueling the car last week when a young man (mebbe 20) pulls into the gas station with the sheet metal on a little Pontiac literally vibrating, and both windows rolled all the way down despite tha fact that it's in the mid 40's. He gets out of the car leaving the engine running and the "music" playing, and goes into the store where he holds a fairly lengthy conversation with what appeared to be his girlfriend.

The entire time this going on the gentleman across the pumps from me (also in his 40's) and I are looking from the car, to the store, and then at each other making a continuous circuit between the three. The relief on both our faces when he finally came out and thumped his way off into the sunset was so priceless that we both laughed at each other.

I wish I answer your question Jeff, but I'm afraid I'm simply too old.

The doof ,doof sound is used to disguise the lyrics which are mostly about B_tches and pimps and Ho's.

What I don't understand is how they keep their pants from falling completely down...Wearing one's trousers around one's thighs seems to be part of Doof-Doof-dom, along w/the baseball cap on bassackwards.

When their pants are just about to fall down, they go into wild contrortions to keep them semi-up. I think they call it breakdancing. Probably because if anyone over the age of 23 tries it, they break some bones.

Joking aside: As for bass volume, loud bass sounds trigger the release of various stress hormones (the famed "fight or flight response") and raise levels of testosterone (male hormones). Teenagers (especially males) like this heavy bass because it suits their physiological state/hormone balances. Older adults have very different hormone balances (much less testosterone), and don't/can't react quite the same physiologically, and thus no longer find that kind of stimulation so pleasing.

Oh it still has a fight or flight effect on my hormones too! It makes me wanna poke holes in all their speaker cones with a phillips screw-driver. Then they'd be riding around going phfitt-phfitt instead of doof-doof!:D

Obviously, these young men's trousers are causing the young men in question great distress. Back in the day, we'd helped the young man get his trousers off, tied said trousers in a knot,w/the help of a couple of the biggest, strongest guys on the football team, & tossed 'em off the P.R. Olgiatti/I-24 bridge in Chattanooga, so he'd not be bothered w/them further. Either that, or pull the trousers up to their chins-IIRC, we called that a "Wedgie"-to where they wouldn't fall down quite so fast.....

As an answer to the original question-NO!!
And it is not music, it is noise by any standard.
There ought to be a bounty on 'em. :uzi: :pistols: :bash:

This thread made my day. :tresbon:

All this talk of phfitt-phfitt and doof-doof reminds me of an arm-pit music ensemble.

Thanks for the chuckles.

Couple of notes:

Circa 1950s = "Filthy rock 'n 'roll rubbish!"
Circa 1960s = "Turn down that noise! It will make you smoke that mara ju ana!" or as my dad said: "You will not play that junk in this house when I am here!"
Circa 2000s = "Filthy doof doof trash!"

Circa 1950s = "Punk greasers with leather jackets!"
Circa 1960s = "Long-haired do-nothin' hippies!"
Circa 2000s = "Crack hoods with pants falling off!"

Doesn't every generation piss off the previous?

Yes, but in the 50's and 60's if a kid went rolling down main-street in his dad's Olds, with volumes approaching the Rolling Stones Live at Altamont blasting from the trunk he would have spent a lovely night in jail, and there's a fair likelyhood his parents wouldn't have gone his bail. We used to get in trouble for opening the cut-outs on our drag cars at the local movie theater, and there were a bunch of my friends that had cars impounded for doing it.

The thing that really kept me out of meaness as a teenager (not that I didn't get into my share) was that my Mom had sworn that if I ever got thrown in jail, I could stay there till the bars rusted from the cell window, cause she wasn't bailing my sorry butt out! I believed her, still do.

i dont get it...i grew up in south america in the 70's and there was never that need for testosterone building music...we went along our merry way to high school listening to Yes, Genesis, King Crimson and the like, and when we skipped school, we went to the corner cafe and talked politics, music, philosophy, etc....

I teach high schoolers, and besides the music and pants falling off, there is much wrong with most of these kids today..not a matter of choices, but a certain moral degradation...I pity these fools when they grow up and no doors will open to them,,,well maybe Rikers Island...

HaHahahahahaha!!!

quite funny!

I'll admit I have some "doof" "doof" music in my collection (Sugarhill Gang, Mos Def, Rev. Run of Run D.M.C.), but I will defend my admittance by also saying I've got a bit of everything else too, from classical to jazz to blues to rock to folk.

And I'm never interested in the overwrought bass and attitude and disregard that many (not all) "Doof" "Doof" pilots have.

And if my pants are ever that low, it's ONLY because I've either forgotten my belt, have fully digested that taco and need to evacuate it, or I'm getting lucky on a Friday night- "Oops" "Oops", "Poop" "Poop", or "Ooohh" "Ooohh"...

Since I live in the sticks we don't see or hear those amBASSadors of doof doof. I have seen those funny looking pants though. We call them 5 day shitters. You could crap your pants for 5 days before anyone would notice anything amiss :D

Start with bad parenting....

It is sad to say, but the relatively self indulged children of the 50's,60's and 70's (of which I am one) are creating even worse children..

What I don't understand is that they spend thousands of dollars putting these monster stereo's in an absolute piece of crap, 10 year old rusted out 4 door honda accord, then they think they are sooooo cool. don't they know that there car looks like a piece of shice? In our day it was okay to have primer on a car because we were just doin the body-work and all our money was spent on new roller rockers. And our Big stereos were at home because we all knew that a car has really crappy listening qualities. Geez The beauty was in the sound of the engine. NOT the Volume of the woofers. Half of these idiots don't even know how to check the oil or if it needs to be checked, but HEH look at my woofers, arn't they cool? I eat these guys for breakfast in my Mustang, with there BBIIGG wings and woof, woofs. Considering That I look like an old man [I am] complete with a grey beard, there expressions are pricless. end of rant. Vrooom.............
cheers wolfgang
