It's called the ESL 57, after the year it was introduced, 1957. It was not given that name by Quad — 57 was meant to differientiate it from Quad's newer speaker, called Quad 63.

If you have the 57, beware: limit amp power to 50W. Any more will destroy the speaker (the Treble Panel, specifically).
