Can you pronounce French words?

I could use some help. How about
Lizzy Mercier Descloux?
Belle Du Soir?
Ballon De'essai?

Be glad to help, but typing words and hearing words or sentences are quite different, as you well know...

Lizzy Mercier Descloux Lizzy, not very french...
Belle du Soir
Ballon d'essai

Those damn French have a different word for everything.

Well, we could debate this for ever, the French the English and the German have always been at logger head on many subject, but you are right about English as de facto language of science. If you want to publish your paper, more and more, English is the language of choice. Almost every paper is published in English nowaday.

When it comes to Science, Germany was the world's leader in optics and the French led in Chemistry during most of the 19th Century. The good old USA was probably known best for Machine Tooling design.

I just knew that someday my History degree would pay off!
