Can't post, Can't Edit, Permissions, etc... Please use this thread

I have been having problems of multiply issues for week or longer more like months. First started when they started an upgrade a while back. You can see the date by going back to my post in what LP are you listening to now. i use to always just do a copy and paste of the LP from Discogs that I am posting. Then from that day on, it won't copy and paste like the original Discogs source code, instead now when you paste it recreates it all mixed up and then I have to post on the thread and go back to edit to clean it up. I have to do this every post

Now starting yesterday i was Forbiden to even access the site Code 505 Forbiden try to refresh or come back later. Later yesterday it started working but I have to reboot my browser all the time as it is constantly then checking for me being a bot.

Is their a way when doing updates or upgrades, you can't work it on a seperate like mirror site and work out all the bugs prior to uploading the changes? I don't seem to ever have any problems at any other site in all my years other than vinyl engine like I do at this site.

If you leave a tab open for a certain amount of time then come back and click the notifications icon, if the cloudflare verification has expired you get the message below until you refresh and re-verify:

Yeah by the time you finish typing up a post for a thread it wants you to refresh your system and revalidate to make sure your not a bot. Then when it refreshes all you material that you typed in is lost.

For replies I'm working on, I've learn to COPY while writing. That way, I don't have to retype the whole enchilada all over again.

Clearly there are others being inconvenienced much more than myself, owing to variations in hardware, browser version, and probably even their IP address. Most of my access is through Brave for Android, running the most current version (as it just updated a couple of days ago) and while the cloudfare verification pops up frequently, most of the other issues are fairly minor, even if they are irritating.

I think the takeaway is that one needs a current mainstream browser that is receiving active updates. Those who are stuck running older/deprecated hardware and browser versions are going to be at a distinct disadvantage. It's a sad reality that the world passes you by pretty quickly now, if you aren't staying relatively current with your tech.

Yeah. Seems like with most Android phones/tablets the limit is 3-4 years before support falls off pretty rapidly (in terms of OS and security updates), and some (non-flagship) phones don't even get that much. This ultimately leads to issues with keeping apps current, as well. Desktop and laptop computers can be stretched further, provided you can meet the resource requirements of newer OS's. Windows 11 has proven to be a pretty hard breakpoint for a lot of legacy hardware.

Could it possibly be a plan by the phone companies?

;)

Is there a reason why we're getting site verification challenges, even while logged in as a subscriber?

I can understand, if someone is just browsing without logging in... but this makes posting very difficult (it keeps losing attachments, among other things).

I am always running the most recent updated version of Firefox, on Windows 10. Currently Firefox 148.0.

Regards,
Gordon.

That's fine, with some sites where everyone is a tech nerd, and is willing to upgrade for the sake of upgrading.

I have a feeling it's not going to end well here, with a significant proportion of members on this site, who will not upgrade, just because it's new. When members start falling away due to frustration, and the posts stop coming from them, it's not going to be good for the community here...

Gordon.

I'm also using the latest Firefox on MacOS Sequoia and Windows 11 (mostly Mac). I didn't realize how few people still use Firefox compared to Chrome until relatively recently. Not sure if someone updated the CloudFlare settings but the verification time-out seems to take longer compared to an hour ago.

@GordonW, I get that, and wasn't intending to give off a "tough luck, suck it up" sort of vibe with what I posted. Just stating the fact that outdated browsers are going to be quite challenging to use in the current environment. I also don't doubt it will cause a fall off in posting, and not necessarily just from the less tech savvy members here.

When a site becomes too difficult or irritating to use (and I've witnessed this elsewhere online) it tends to drive users away. I hope that doesn't happen, here but there have been intermittent problems for months now, and based on others posting in this thread, I can see some folks patience running thin. Nearly everyone has an upper limit of frustration that causes them to walk away from that which is aggravating them.

Yep, that's what I'm getting at. It becomes a "life is too short..." situation.
