carillon 1400 - anyone know anything?

I have a chance to purchase a pair of carillon 1400 speakers in very good condition for a very inexpensive price. I've spent hours looking and can find nothing about them - anyone know anything?

In all honesty, I know nothing of them. But you can clearly see the poor quality. The drivers look cheap, and the silver rings are a dead giveaway saying run away.

But I know nothing of the brand or make. I could be wrong....

Thanks for the input - there seems to be a certain era where shall we say questionable esthetics entered the speaker market and i just don't know enough to tell by looking. The only thing i found on the brand was a fairly current review from the uk on a modern set of studio monitors retailing for over 1200 uk pounds. Left me curious, however - I think your right, will probably pass.

I lie - there is also an ad on fleabay for a speaker pulled from a vintage wultzer(?) jukebox from the 50's/60's with the speaker branded as carillon - again just made me curious

I have a set of Carillon C1400 speakers, picked them up for $5 at an auction.

They are on A and Mission 700's are on B of my Pioneer SX-737. The Mission 700's sound like absolute crap compared to these speakers. I do not know who made them or where they came from. All I know is they sound great for jazz, rock and recordings like Plant/Krauss "Raising Sands" with lots of lows and sparse instrumentation that does not interfere with the vocals.

For contrast, at the moment I have Jeff Beck "Sophie" blasting through the speakers, a tune with lots of bottom and highs and its fantastic! Crisp cymbals and open hihats, Jan Hammer keyboard parts clear and precise, Bass is amazing with no flubbing or muddiness.

Go Figure $5!!!! I will not sell these speakers.

I don't know if there's any relationship, but recently there was, in the Tubes forum, some talk of Carillon integrated amps and the quality of the product. Some one there may know of the speakers as well, if they're related.

I think Carillon was a brand carried by a catalogue store named Shoprite (kind of like Consumer's Distributing) many years ago. I was young and dumb and I bought a pair of their 15" top of the line speakers. They were so good they even had separate level controls for the mids and tweeter, and a blue coned woofer. I was quite surprised when I took them apart and found the whole voice coil and magnet assembly was about 2 inches across on the bass driver. Even a young punk like me knew that couldn't be good, but damned if they didn't play quite loud and sounded reasonably good. Lots of boom and pretty efficient. I think they were about $180. Canadian for the pair, weighed about 60 lbs each.
