Cartridge suggestion under $300

Newbie here, not sure where to post this guess this is a good as place any. I recently inherited a Technics sl-bd22. I intend to hook this up to the computer to mobilize some of my lps, however it needs a new stylus. It is Audio Technia Sereis 1 haven't been able to find much on this cartridge so I have been thinking of a different cartridge. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Amazon has the Shure M 97xE on sale now.

Post some pictures of your turntable and cartridge.

The other forum members may be able to tell whether the Shure M97xE would be a good match.:scratch2:

I'm unable to find the weight of this cart. I have been reading threads and it seems that I need one about 6 grams for proper tracking?

M_P: No worries. AT's P-mount carts typically stick to the T4P standard of 6 g. In fact, Technics even switched over to this type of ATs, after they had stopped to provide their own T4P models. Personally I favour the AT102P family models, though... Nevertheless, for around 20 bucks, the AT92E(CD) really is hard to beat, unless one can make a steal-like deal somewhere (for example, I've once got a new old stock Ortofon 320 for just around 6 Euro on ebay.de...).

Thank you lini, not really sure what I'm looking for but I have been reseaching. How do you feel about the Ortofon OMP 5E about 50 us as opposed to the Audio-Technica 301EP these are both about the same money and in my price range. Are these overkill for the turntable?

M_P: Sometimes price isn't really a reliable indicator - the AT301EP actually is lower quality than the AT92E(CD), though not by much. So I'd really strongly suggest to consider the latter. The Ortofon would be an alternative in about the same quality class, but more expensive. Advantage of the Ortofon would be that you can still get higher quality original needles for it, while digging up an original ATN3472NE/ATN316EP or ATN3472LC/ATN331LP for upgrading the AT92E(CD) would already be rather difficult now. However, there are 3rd party hyperelliptical and Shibata needles for that AT body type you could use instead. Might already be debatable, whether one should invest more than the ~ 20 bucks for an AT92E(CD) for an SL-BD22 anyway, though...
