Carver TX-11a Thoughts

Update! Just tried KGVN 1400 again, with the TV in the living room off, and it IS in stereo! LCD TV obviously interfering with the AM Stereo signal. So there is one station within DFW range that still does it. Coming in on my Delco radio (out of a '92 Cadillac) I have set up on the bench.

Cool! I love the look of the display in that radio and its color. (Maybe it's your camera doing that, but most GM radio displays aren't that nice deep green color.)

As a tuner for DX'ing, the 11a is a nice tuner to have although ultimately beat out by the 11b. But then again, I prefer an Onkyo T-9090 II over both Carver's and I've owned all 3.

Sound-wise, IMO, both of the Carver's are less than ideal and you can do better with equal or less money at market value.

Resurrecting the thread to ask a question.

I was in a second hand shop this afternoon and saw a TX-11a for $149. Wasn't plugged in so I I don't know whether everything lights up, nor - obviously - whether everything works. The terminals on the back aren't perfect - one of the a.m. connectors is bent, but appears intact.

I'm mostly interested in the wideband a.m. capability. At $150, is it worth it? What should I look out for?

I recommend that you shop some first and include Ebay. Good luck! If this turns into a pricing thread we will have to move it into Dollars and Sense. I looked for a TX-11B for a long time and they are hard to find.
