Cat sits on my tubes, like a hen hatching an egg??

+1 on the avatar pic, and a cat-training tip that worked for my cats back in the day:
Loud noises startle, and operant conditioning works even for cats: Try a dozen pennies in a coke can to make a rattle.
No water, no VOCs to stain finishes, no smell to smell. Catch Morris in the act and give the can a quick, sharp rattle... Two or three times was all that was required for my fleet-footed fleet to get the point.

Startling a cat works very well, the only problem with startling any animal is that when startled they tend to run; and a 12 pound cat can do a lot of damage digging out when they're scared. If the cat is already on the gear, it's not beyond the realm of possibility that it would get tangled up in it and drag it off the shelf, or break a tube or socket when they depart.

I had a cat who thought speaker grills were scratching stations.
And another who thought that any speaker over 8" was for peeing into. (Target practice, I guess)
Fortunately the current model is more interested in upholstered furniture than audio gear.
Mothballs eh ?

Both of my feline friends enjoy the hobby and like to make good use of the electronic warmth. I recently picked up a pair of MC-275's and it was hilaroius watching them try to sit on the transformers without touching the tubes.

I realized quickly there was a lot of potential for tube and possibly cat damage. I took a piece of aluminum foil and make a 6" circle using tape to secure the ends. I left it laying between the tubes and the transformers and both cats wanted nothing more to do with the Mac based solely on the sound of the foil moving when they touched it.

 Good point. I guess I was thinking "tubed receiver" or "tube integrated" rather than something rare and valuable! :stupid:

Mine isn't even able to jump that high to reach my Scott (or any other integrated I own).

Smooth cat around 12 years old...

I was lucky with my cat (except that he died too young). He only peed outside or in his litter box. He never once scratched anything in the house... furniture, speakers, nothing. He caused no trouble and was a delight to have around. I miss the little critter.

Moderators Note:

In an earlier post (now removed) a suggestion was made to do harm to the animal in question. Firstly, animal cruelty is against the law. It's also not a solution to this problem that AK wants any part of. To future posters... If you have nothing to offer this conversation but suggestions of cruelty and harm, find another thread.

Thank you sir!!

She's attracted to your amp? Mine only likes my tuna....

Thank you! I'll be here all week....try the veal:D

I am ashamed that I laughed. ;)

My cat loves all my audio equipment. The tube console was a new present for her, since it was mine, and a became kitty cave. I have to check to see if she's back there before I turn it on, otherwise she'll be coming through hot tubes, and I don't that will mix well with long fur. Her favorite though is my SS receiver, I had to move it under cover because she got aggressively territorial over it. She would be warm and happy and if I came near it she would hiss and claw at me.

I have the opposite problem... The big goofball in my avatar is afraid of the upstairs 2ch system. If I approach it he takes off like the proverbial bat out of hades.
I think the behavior stems from the time that a family member, ignorant in the ways of component seperates, left the pre-amp on and the amp off, with the pre- at about 80% scale. (CD->NAD 114->NAD PE2240->Klipsch Cornwalls)
I turned the 2240 on before it dawned on me that the whole rack was seriously amiss settings-wise... the sound was deafening: 180lbs of dog absolutely hovered: I don't think his paws hit the floor as he ran right out of the house.
Its' taken dozens of hours of on-the-floor time with the 2ch on LOW just to get him to stay in the room during listening hours, and he's still timid.

Do you think it was the sub-woofers that scared him? :D

I just found out the cat doesn't care if the console is on or off when she decides to make use of the cave. My apartment smells of singed cat fur now. Not a pleasant smell.

I smell caturday here :-d

Anyway I love cats, but hate what one did to my 1938 fairbanks morse 8a. Grille cloth and speaker cone were wet when I got it, and the copper-painted "tone projector" is corroded in one spot... that's all that needs to be said.

I have a heck of a time if I leave cloth braided wires laying around too...cat LOVES em!

Get the cat this book:

Curious Kat and the high voltage tube amp

:)

Dave

edit: I'm joking btw, I'd never hurt an animal, or support it.

In a way, I'm kinda lucky.
My Sister's recently deceased cat, clawed up BOTH her woofers, on her old Spectrum speakers.
BAD CAT'S don't go to Rainbow Bridge......they go to Best Buy.
