CD Player to EQ connection

I am finally asking a question that I have had for years, but never really had a good reason to ask (still don't): Why is my CD player output unaffected by my equalizer? My cassette deck has full access to the functions of the equalizer, but my CD player ignores it. Is it a analog/digital incompatibility?

If hooked up correctly and that Denon receiver has a tape monitor loop that can stay engaged at all times, the EQ will affect all input sources.

Any recording device would then be connected to the EQ, not the receiver.

Do you have the eq wired through a tape monitor?

This is how I have it set up now:

Line In on eq goes to Tape 1 Rec on receiver

Tape Mon 1 In on eq goes to Line Out on cassette deck

Tape Mon 1 Out on eq goes to Line In on cassette deck

Line Out on eq goes to Tape 1 PB on receiver

VCR goes to Tape 2 PB/In on receivers-l1600.jpg post-22587-0-42839500-1459795201.jpg

............... and nowhere does your reply mention the CD player.

Did you mean "CD" when you typed "VCR"?

CD player should be connected to the input that says "CD".

If you have a VCR in the system, connect it's audio output to the "VDP" input.

No, I meant my VCR. The CD player is plugged into receiver input: CD, and is working well, but does not respond to EQ.
The VCR is also working as it should, and I have not needed to adjust EQ for it, but are you saying I should plug it into VDP instead of VCR on the receiver?

Did you try the CD output connected to the tape input by removing temporarily the cassette deck from there?

On many receivers that I have used, the signal flows from tape loop one to tape loop two; therefore, a device connected to loop two will not benefit from a signal processor connected to loop one. Connecting the EQ to loop two will allow all devices to access it. Hope this is helpful.

I have NEVER seen an arrangement like this (and I own receivers/preamps with multiple tape loops and external processor loops)--each "loop" is exactly that--a discrete loop. For each specific loop, the signal leaves via the rec/signal out (goes wherever it needs to go--tape deck or processor) and returns to the tape/signal in of THAT loop. When the monitor function for that loop is engaged, the final output is whatever is coming out of that loop, be it a tape deck or signal from another source returning from an external processor.

With a newer receiver like that, many do not have a true tape monitor loop. They have record outs and tape in, some times even selectable, but not necessarily the monitor function.

The manual is available online. I suggest going through that to verify if the unit has true tape monitor.

REC OUT from receiver to REC IN on EQ--REC OUT on EQ to TAPE IN on receiver--when the tape monitor is engaged, all sources will be affected by the EQ.

I hate that rec out crap Denon uses.
Took me months to figure out how to use my EQ with my Denon.*
I feel the OP's pain.

*Which is the DRA-635R.
Have to push some combination of monitor and rec out.
Pain in the flipping ass.
Once I finally figured it out I was ok. Then I got a new receiver. A while later wanted to use the Denon as a test system, could not get the EQ to work again.
Not sure but Yamaha may have used a similar set up?

It's actually not that involved once you FINALLY figure it out.

Denon DRA-635R Receiver
The “Denon DRA-635R” Operating Instructions and the “Rotel RE-2000 EQ” photo say that they have all the necessary to monitor any sound processor effect (including equalizers and 3-head tape decks).

Following The “Denon DRA-635R” Operating Instructions, processors (including equalizers and 3-head tape decks etc.) to be monitored are to be connected to “TAPE 1”.
My cassette deck has full access to the functions of the equalizer
What model cassette deck?

At this point, I'd suggest he disconnect everything from the tape monitors. Leave the CD plugged into the CD input.

Now, install the equalizer in tape 1 and make sure it works.

Once he's done that, he should get back to us.

Seems to me that connection should work to EQ the CD player.

Does the CD go dead when Tape Mon 1 is selected on the receiver? Be sure tape monitor 1 switching on the EQ is OFF, in other words take the tape deck out of the chain.
