Cerwin Vega D-9 Tweeter Replacement

I ended up ordering 2 of the Eminence APT-80 Super Tweeter with 80 degree Conical Horns from Parts Express as the specs seem to be an almost exact match and some threads I found sung their praises and noted they were an direct fit. Compared to the CS5, the APT-80 is deeper, the horn is removable (Eminence uses the same driver with many horns) and the magnet is more substantial.

Installed one and it is almost a direct fit into the D9. The cutout for the original CS5 tweeter mirrors the outline of the magnet...not a round hole. The APT-80 fits easily into the hole but doesn't snug flat to the speaker housing...sits about 1/8" proud. I will have to make a slight mod to either the bracing on the horn or to the housing. The screw holes align perfectly.

The great news is that with one D-9 using an original CS5 and the other the APT-80 my ears cannot tell the difference. Volume and tone seem to match perfectly...at least to my ears.

But I am a stickler for keeping things as original as possible, so I will continue my search for either NOS CS5s or a used pair...in the interim...it is nice to crank up the D-9s and enjoy the music!

Thanks again for everyone's input.

Happy listening!
