Got a Cerwin Vega LW15 (subwoofer) yesterday for $50 but when I plugged it in the subwoofer sounded as if it had a high pass crossover at 60hz. Low bass was not hitting and voices and such were fairly clear even when the plate amps lpf/crossover was set to 40hz - its lowest position. I played with the connection options to no avail.
Pulled the plate amp out and tried another (unpowered) sub on it, same kind of sound. Used a tone generator to find that it will output is occurring at lower frequencies. I ran it down to 35hz and got output but it seemed like it would start to falter when the volume was cranked up, maybe only achieving half of the cones potential movement.
So, it works. But sort of. Any thoughts?
