Challenge to Mach One owners

If during the sweep, all three drivers are showing the same impedance at the crossover frequency, there is going to be little or no effect. Until we see the data, I'm not sure this PSA has any value to anyone.

That's the problem no one knows. The only thing I know is per my research and per Parts Express the 4029 uses a 6 ohm driver, and theirs is a 4 ohm. Its highly unlikely that all 3 woofers have the same impedance at ~1khz, even a 1 ohm difference will alter the Xover. So as I am rebuilding my Mach Ones, I will forgo my interest in those drivers and re-foam until someone knows for sure. The truth is no one knows at least know one who posts. I have asked Texexec (the Tandy speaker designer during the 4029 period) if he has any info. Until then it could be a large hole, spike, or not much of anything, we don't know. Texexecd did say they did lots of listening and testing; the Mach Ones Xover was not just thrown together the Mach Ones were voiced.

Here is what I would do if I was going to buy a new woofer for the Mach One. I would buy the older 8 ohm driver and copy the cross over from the 4024 model. It would be a very easy job for most. Many say the older Machs sound better this may even improve the sound? Most folks redo the caps anyways, may as well get the 8ohm 4024 driver and make its cross-over.

The 4029 uses a 33uF cap and 2.7mH coil for the woofer.

Seems like a lot of stress over something that may only have a very marginal effect on the sound. I would have a lot of confidence in the PE guys to get it right based on my experience with them.

I'm not stressed at all. But people being biased toward Parts Express don't help others. Parts Express has admited to the impedance being wrong. Its not our money its other folks money.

Some I can understand may dislike me becuase of the idea of someone new here finding an error at Parts Express. I have been there before and like them. But again, playing it down is not the right thing to do for others.

Energy can be better spent finding the truth and or a solution. I as a 30 years original owner of the Mach Ones would not put in a 4 ohm driver if its suppose to be 6 ohms. Now if other want to go ahead.

Seems to me this thread is just going in circles. If you have to replace the driver, go with the PE 8-ohm version or find a used replacement. If its a simple case of foam-rot, then repair it. The correct sizes and shapes are readily available.
I think all's been said that needs to be said on this subject. Closed.
