Chance to get Empire 598 question

Just wondering if the Empire 598 with the right cartridge would be an up grade over my Technics SL 1210 with a audio technica at440mla. I know that some of you guys love the Empires on this board.
I have plans and am currently saving for a "high end" type turntable and was just wondering if I need to pick this up. The Empire 598 has the stock tone arm but is missing the stock wood base and dust cover.

I think the 598 uses the cartridge-carrier like the other Empire tt's. Make sure it's there BEFORE you purchase the table. There are reproduction carriers available, but that's a recent phenomenon, and they may not continue to be available. I can't comment on the 598 vs the SL-1210, as I haven't heard the 1210. But, there are lot's of Technics fans here that will likely provide perspective.

If you have the skills to build a base or can find one locally and the Empire is reasonably cheap, I'd make the buy and compare them
