New guy here, in my 50's. Figured I would sign up here, looks like a good place to talk about audio gear. I was trained as an electronics tech quite a few years back, went into another line of work though. Been getting into repairing old gear lately, and building up some of my own.

Where in Texas? Big place.

Well, I live on 11 acres out in the middle of Bastrop county on a dead end gravel road. Closest actual town to me is Paige but its several miles away. I'm about a half hour drive out of Austin.

I had an old 1950's farm house moved to my property, rewired the house, re plumbed the hot and cold water, gas line and sewage line, put in central air using a geothermal heat pump, and have a lot of remodeling to do but it's livable. It pays to be able to do all that yourself.

I like to fix stuff. I mow with a 1948 tractor I rebuilt the engine in, and have a 1954 dodge M37 military pickup truck I did a frame off rebuild on, though I converted it to modern disk brakes and power steering while I was at it.

I also have a couple Luxkit z504 amps in line to be rebuilt, and and old BK 650 tube tester I need to restore and recal, and a few other pieces of audio gear to be fixed up and made to work. I repair odds and ends for friends and family but I haven't done much serious work on receivers and amps yet, but I'm starting now and intend to build a tube amp up from scratch before years end.

Welcome from another Texan. Learned to drive myself on a 1948 International Harvester Tractor! Any pines left in your area after the big fire?

My place escaped the big fire, I have a few pines out in the pasture but I'm more in the oak/cedar country.

Sure burned up a lot of them though, I have a 6" thick slab about 4 feet across cut from the trunk of one that was cut down in the cleanup, huge old pine tree looking to make a table top from it. Some biologists got a slab from it as well and took it up to UT I think, they say that tree went through three big fires in lifetime, I believe the last back in the 1920's but this fire did it in. Been almost two years now and they are still cleaning up burned trees and such.
