Citation II Project Painted Chassis Cleaning

I am working on a Deuce, and I have removed all components on the chassis for a full rebuild. This chassis needs cleaning after the decades of use. I am looking for a cleaner that will not harm the paint or silk screen on this original amp. Do you know of any good cleaners for this purpose?

dishwashing detergent and damp cloth works well if you just need to clean the grime and don't want to damage any of printing.
 
Can you post a before and after pic too? Just to inspire those of us who never actually disassemble everything to do the right thing for the chassis?
 
Please, I would not use dishwashing soap. A little car washing soap. It is made to clean paint. I would use distilled water in a weak solution with soap, clean terry cloth rag. Rinse with distilled water. If you are happy Meiguars clean wax for protection is my first go to.
 
I think the lettering material is stronger than the original chassis paint.
Mild soap water will not hurt it.
 
After the soap and before the wax a little rubbing compound or polishing compound (and, some elbow grease) will really take the grime out of the paint! Will make it easier to wax, as well.
 
I used turtle wax car wash and a mr clean magic eraser, then I used turtle wax and let the chassis sit for a little while and buffed it out.
 
That looks great! Color choice for the trannies? I'm about to do the last clear coat on mine today and start the final reassembly - all new Jim McShane kit.
 
That looks great! I have two of these beasts. The first one got a little bent in shipping. I have to straighten it and repair a small dent in one transformer. Touch up chassis, etc. I'm doing the complete Jim McShane treatment on it right now.

The second unit looks really good. It had belonged to the guy that ran Vacuum Tube Valley if I remember right. That one will, for the cosmetic side, need only cleaning and a wax job, even the front panel.

Did you have to get your front panel redone? What paint did you use for the transformers??
