CL keyword spamming at its worst!

For the love of Zod, no price or auction listings are absolutely against the rules. How many times am I going to have to post this link?

https://www.craigslist.org/about/help/faq

I know this is semantics but it does not say this in the rules...

Obviously no auction links or asking for bids but no price does not mean it should be flagged nor does best offer...that's not asking for bids.

Anyways, the FAQ isn't the rules...I think it's silly people get so bent out of shape on the way people list their stuff for sale as long as they follow the ACTUAL rules...if they don't follow the suggestions so be it.

All it says is please post a price...and this is in regards to eBay links and not general guidelines...thin at best.

If craigslist wanted it as a hard and fast rule,it would be listed in the rules

It straight out says "do not solicit bidding." That's a pretty black-and-white statement. I suppose they could put three-inch-high flaming letters at the top of each page stating "Thou shalt not post an auction ad," but that would be a bit silly.

I think the ONLY valid reasons for flagging listings are in the actual rules...everything else is just stupid

There is a local guy selling some BPC and is keyword spamming. I keep sending him emails asking about his tannoys or altecs.

He never responds but I am enjoying it anyways.

Best offer isn't soliciting bids

When you list "$100 or best offer", that isn't soliciting bids. When you only put "best offer", that is definitely soliciting blind/sealed bids. And, to the other post about FAQ's not being rules... FAQ stands for frequently asked questions. This means they are answering us. They are telling us the rules in their answers to the questions we, in the general sense of the term, ask most often. Imagine if your son asked you if he could borrow the car and you said, "not after 8pm." Your son then said to his friend, "My father's answer wasn't really a rule, just a suggestion. We can borrow the car, even though it's 11pm right now." Nope, he broke a rule, not a suggestion.

Apparently this listing took more than a few flags to get it booted...

And yes...more straw please

So, I guess none of you have ever scored from a listing with no price??? Some of my very best scores have come that way...trust me in that I'm no slouch when it comes to scores and will negotiate with the best of them, but why flag a potential winner?

Yes...I should clarify...OBO with a price (no issue)...soliciting the best offer and will do so until next Saturday (no go)

I guess my real problem is with all the Junior Deputies of Craigslist that have nothing better to do than flag every listing they don't like for no good reason...I see people on here talk about it all the time...that's what I consider a stupid waste of time. And if truth be told, more flagging goes on from other competing sellers and buyers than anything else just to get an edge...so much for Karma

Craigslist is a self-policing community. They don't remove ads unless someone flags them. I'd consider it bad Karma to allow flagrant rules violations to run amok. It's the difference between living in a community, and living amongst a whole bunch of "leave me alone!" types who are all out to screw each other over.

Point it out. Point out ONE TIME that people talk about flagging something other than for not having a set price, having keyword spam, or being an out-and-out scam.

There was a guy locally selling high end audio equipment, and every one of his ads contained keyword spam. A number of locals routinely flagged him and he routinely put the ads right back up. I finally emailed CL asking if their was something they could do to stop the never-ending cycle, or something that we could do besides endless flagging. I got back what was likely a canned response, saying that CL is intended as self policing and CL generally only got involved when the ad involved a possible criminal violation. But they also pointed out the guidelines and the references in the FAQ's that state what must, what can, and what cannot appear in an ad ARE the rules that apply and violations of the guidelines and rules in the FAQ's are what are to be flagged. I flag a bit more often after receiving that email.

That would be a bigger waste of time than just flagging ads for fun...I'll pass

Let's define keyword spamming...

If I'm selling a pair of JBL can I say they sound like Altec and/or compare them to 10 more brands?

If I'm selling brand X turntable can I say it would sound great with a pioneer, sansui, kenwood or marantz vintage receiver? Might even sound good with a Mcintosh, etc.

Where do you draw the line? Any mention of anything that's not for sale gets flagged or strictly the endless list of brands at the end of a listing?

Just curious what you guys define keyword spamming as?

If someone wants to write ad text comparing products, I don't have a problem with that. If the bottom of the ad is nothing but a list of 30-50 manufacturers who have nothing to do with the ad, and the list is obviously just there to clog up searches, then it's keyword spam. See: the ad that started this thread.

That's just a jumble of words that have nothing to do with whatever particular product is for sale. It's just there to screw with my ability to search for what I'm actually looking for.
