Cold Weather Superbowl....chance of postponement ??

Exactly. I'll be watching from my recliner, no matter how cold it is at the game, I'll brave the elements here to turn the HDTV on.

.....for the sake of the players, the crowd at the stadium, and the watchablity of the game to the TV audience, I think the Super Bowl should be played in a heated dome, period....everybody loses when the weather is so cold the players can barely function....it's actually not worth watching, imo.....

I think it's fine for the Superbowl if it remains in the southern tier where warmer weather can be expected. As a player or an attending fan, I'd much prefer to be in LA, Phoenix, New Orleans or Miami in February than in New Jersey. Sharp reductions in ticket sales/prices in the past week shows this to be true of prospective bowl attendees from Seattle and Denver.

The devil in me is hoping for some gawd-awful weather next Sunday just for the sake of drama. :D

Maybe, or maybe it's that they raised them too high and need to reduce them back to last years level or so to sell them??? I just checked StubHub and $1490 for an endzone upper deck is the cheapest they have....

"NEW YORK (AP) -- Super Bowl fans can prepare to pay double for the best seats. The NFL expects the most expensive tickets for its championship game will be about $2,600 each for 9,000 premium seats for the Feb. 2 game at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

That's more than twice the $1,250 cost for similar tickets at last season's Super Bowl in New Orleans"

I suppose the laws of supply and demand, not to mention journalism, can be a bit tricky.

As of Jan. 24, the cheapest ticket listed on NFL Ticket Exchange (the league'™s official resale site) was $1,779. That is $409 cheaper than the cheapest ticket on the site with nine days remaining before the big game last year and $809 cheaper than two years ago.

Furthermore, the cheapest ticket was $2,700 the day after the conference championship games ended, so prices are falling fast.

The cost of the cheapest pair of tickets has dropped over $100 apiece in the past 2 days since this article was written (it's now $1,490).

In any event, I personally think it's a bad idea to have the Superbowl in northern climes, even if indoor.

But are the seats comparable? That $1490 ticket was waaaay up top.

During the first round of the playoffs, there was trouble selling out in Cincinnati, Green Bay and Indy, with cold weather being cited as an issue in the first two. Pundits cited that with modern technology many found staying at home and watching on a 60"+ HDTV with replay and internet access was preferable to actually going to the game.

FWIW, I actually do enjoy watching the game at home better as you get replays and a better view. Plus beers aren't $8.00 each and the bathroom is cleaner and less crowded. :D

Probably. The cheapest tickets on StubHub always seem to be in the nosebleed section. To me, there's no meaningful difference between $1500 and $1700 for a ticket. They both $1500 and $1700, respectively, above what I would be willing to spend, particularly for a Superbowl in New Jersey.:D

We have Aloha Stadium just sitting here, ready for 50k plus fans.

Nice and toasty here. Why not let the players enjoy some sun and surf after the game.
2:00 PM start HST would be 7:00 PM start Eastern. Perfect all around. :)

Totally agreed! Hell, I'd have a hard time spending $100 for a sporting event...

Last time I paid for a Packers/Lion ticket it was $27 or so back in the Silverdome. In said nosebleed section

Aha ! There's the issue. You're not even taking ticket price into account.
You're letting your old school vision of he man football cloud the reality of an event that can cost over a thousand dollars just for admission.
Me,I can't imagine spending that kind of money and having to be cold and not be able to see the game because it's snowing too hard.
The picture on a new big screen TV is way too good. . :smoke:

People should stop being such crybabies.

Good luck with that.

Ha! In those seats I got you really don't see too much of the game even if it's not snowing you're so far away. Football really is a tough spectator sport live as you're so far away from the action. Watching HS football when my daughter was in band was tough when they moved down field and those stands are so small that were they seats at a pro game they'd be very, very expensive.

Agree 100% !!!

Good luck with that.

Different times I guess, but that's pretty much the way I was brought up...

The weather forecast is still too far out to be accurate, but the computer models are saying either rain, snow or both. That covers about everything.:D

The real problem as of this mornings news cast is that the price of available tickets are dropping rapidly. One station blames it on a poor weather forecast. I don't buy that. More like a lack of interest for 2 out of town teams.
From all indications it may turn out to be a super bust for NJ.
I expect a dome stadium will be the result in the near future.

There is no talk of this game on local radio here. Cold, dark, rainy, wet, driving costs and nightmare traffic. Anyone attending this game will have to leave their place hours before it starts. Seattle may not as well exist to those on the East Coast. Why would anyone in New Jersey care about this game. New York is a Giants town. And the Meadowlands certainly isn't a vacation destination.

And, that's the way it is folks. Local interest will be close to non existent. It will be interesting to see how many out of towners gamble on February weather in that location. As someone who has resided across the river in Manhattan through various winters, February will see some relatively mild days, but most will be wind blown with moist, maritime air. Combine that with cloud cover and frigid temperatures, and it gets complicated sitting in one place for hours on end and not losing significant body heat. If you're seated in the sun and there is no wind, it won't be bad. Good luck with that.

As far as the game itself, I'd like to see it played on a fast, dry track, with no more than a breeze blowing. Good luck with that, too.

Mike Ditka

Has announced publicly that he thinks playing the Superbowl outside in NJ is stupid.
:stupid:
I just heard the interview.

'' you shouldn't ask the players to play the SB in those conditions..''
'' The game should be played in as close to perfect conditions as possible ''

So there ya go,from one of footballs original iron man tough guys who coached and played in an outside stadium forever. . :thmbsp:

BTW.I read an article yesterday that said you can't take a cab,Limo,or walk to the game.
The NFL is running a shuttle from designated locations...only $51.00.
I guess if you have $1,400.00 for a ticket,another $51.00 is nothing.
To sit outside...in the cold....for hours. .
Tailgating ? ?
In your own vehicle only. . :lmao: . Fun ! .
