Colon Cleansing?

Quality over Quantity
Has anyone done this? For some unknown reason I have been thinking about doing this. At almost 56 years old I wonder if it would be beneficial?

Should a person consult their doctor about doing this or just go ahead and cleanse away?

I eat relatively healthy, very little if any quick junk foods from fast food joints. I love salads and eat them about 4-5 times a week. I do like red meat and consume it daily. I do not suffer from constipation and am as regular at the 7am short bus.

I do have kind of a bloated belly, but have associated it with middle age buldge. Could this be somewhat caused by the need to clean out the plumbing?

I know this is a crappy topic, but I am seriously considering doing this for health reasons and was wondering if anyone else has done this and was it beneficial? Please no thread CRAPPING. But if you have some input I would like to hear it.

I have been reading sites online about this and am very close to heading to the Whole Foods store.

Geesh, maybe I should just enjoy my morning coffee. I don't know why I started thinking about this this morning.

I have not done it but do have a friend who has. From what I understand some pretty nasty stuff came out of his system. I do think you should also consider your diet if you are having issues.

Thats the thing, I am not having issues. All of my life I have pretty much eaten anything I wanted. But I guess upper middle age has me thinking about taking care of myself and have been eating much healthier for the last couple of years. A big bowl of oatmeal almost every morning, lots of salads and fruit, etc. But I do prefer red meat over chicken and eat red meat daily.

Thanks for some feedback spartan, it is appreciated.

not sure what your age is, but if anything you would benefit from, it would be that dreaded colon check.

simi, I am 55. I have never had my colon checked, but the doctor has mentioned it needed to be done in the future. Prostate was checked and deemed healthy. I guess they check the colon for polyps? They can develop into cancer?

I had a colonoscopy earlier this year. I am in my early 40's. My father had colon cancer so this was something I did not want to mess around with. I have noticed that since turning 40 my whold digestive system is not what it used to be.

I need to go in for one too. My dad has had a couple done and they found polyps, so it's probably in my best interest.. BUT.. I think my smoking is probably doing me in faster..

I go back to see my doc the middle of August and will discuss all of this with him. Damn, this getting older stuff sucks. He has treated me very well so far, so I will follow his advice and recommendations. One positive is Cancer is not very prevelent in my family, even with almost everyone being a smoker. Looking for wood to knock on.

Yeah, you REALLY need to get a colonoscopy by age 50...My wife, an RN w/30 years experience, says that colorectal cancer frequently has little or no signs until its too late..They give you this "Clean-out" stuff the day before you have it, & it gets rid of everything that might be "hangin' back" from as far back as the Johnson Administration...

Thanks for the info Sandy. I heard that super cleanout stuff is pretty nasty stuff.

Will my fart sound more like a whistle afterwards? Sorry, my attempt at humor on this crappy subject.:smoke:

Try fasting. Opinions are all over the map, but the basic premise is you give your digestive system a break. Also the time to take some cleanser to flush out the toxins.

I have done three day juice fasts. The first day is brutal. You have to keep drinking juice and water to squelch the hunger. Lots of visits to the head. But after that you feel amazingly relaxed.

There are many variations so do some research.

It's too weird for me. I've heard varied opinions, but nature's way to clean out the colon is the flu. But no harm, if it floats your boat, I guess.

I've tried the stuff that comes from GNC.....bunk. But, then I eat LOTS of fiber every day. So my colon might already be as clean as a whistle?

If you are healthy and eat a good diet, you don't need it. The digestive system is designed to cleanse itself, and unless there is something terribly wrong, it does so just fine. The entities giving so many reasons favor of doing this are usually the ones selling the products. They want you to worry about what's in there, and they take advantage of your middle age paunch and try to make you think it will slim your belly. I heard an infomercial say exactly that the other day - "slims your abdomen." BS!

And get a colonoscopy. It will totally clean you out anyhow.

I don't know if it's still made, but "Uncle Sam" cereal does the job toot-sweet, so to speak. It's full of flaxseed...and I'm sure you could get flaxseed at a Whole Foods or something and add a generous amount to a bowl of good fibery cereal. As far as a C-scopy goes, don't put it off. Really shouldn't wait much past 40...that way a baseline is established and future inspections will reveal any variance. The prep procedure was touted as grim...but I didn't experience any real problems. Had to mix this powder (polyethlyene glycol...powdered antifreeze, I guess) with Gatorade and drink & drink & drink. Then stay close to the head.
The actual procedure is uneventful...you have no idea what's going on. Fentanyl kinda does that.

I'm just an old piece of audio gear! Racoon my Wooger, tweek my twitters, spray liberally with Deoxit, furiously work my knobs and let me Scroe once in a while, I should last another 50 years.

Seriously, I have done fasting and cleanses, combined with exercise, with great results. That was over 10 years ago, though. I, too, am seriously considering an upper colonic.
